Thank you all for the quick replies. You're all awesome!!! I think we're going to try Moneygram this time and see how it goes. I'll also look into PNB webremit and see what they offer and if it's going to work for us. But right now, we are really interested in trying Moneygram.

Anyway, you all have a good day! Thanks again for the insights!

Mae, how about getting a PNB Global Filipino Money card for your family? It is a debit card that is specially designed for filipino overseas and their families in the Philippines. There is no withdrawal fee and there is no maintaining balance either and you can transfer money online and the remittance charges is a little lower than the PNB web remit.

Does anybody here have used Moneygram before or still using it until now? We are in the process of experimenting on how to send money to my family in the Philippines. Western Union so far is efficient but their service fee is way too expensive. We have used Xoom as well but it is kind of hassle for my dad to travel to the next town just to get the money. And also, I've heard of some problems that customers have experienced with Xoom so we stopped using it too. While we were at Wal-Mart 2 nights ago, we found out that they offer Moneygram services. Before we try it, I want to know if any of you has ever encounered problems on both ends (sender and receiver)? Or if is an efficient way to send money to your loved ones and how strict they are (payput location) when it comes to identifications of the recipient.

Any replies will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

I love Moneygram because it's cheaper than Western Union and they don't have to wait for the money.Every time I sent Western Union.it was always blocked for a couple of hours for some reason.

May 7,2007-USCIS received I-129f
July 24,2007-NOA1 was received
April 21,2008-K-1 visa denied.
June 3,2008-waiver filed at US Consalate in Panama
The interview went well, they told him it will take another 6 months for them to adjudicate the waiver
March 3,2009-US Consulate claims they have no record of our December visit, nor Manuel's interview
March 27,2009-Manuel returned to the consulate for another interrogation(because they forgot about December's interview),and they were really rude !
April 3,2009-US Counsalate asks for more court documents that no longer exist !
June 1,2009-Manuel and I go back to the US consalate AGAIN to give them a letter from the court in Colon along with documents I already gave them last year.I was surprised to see they had two thick files for his case !

June 15,2010-They called Manuel in to take his fingerprints again, still no decision on his case!
June 22,2010-WAIVER APPROVED at 5:00pm
July 19,2010-VISA IN MANUELITO'S HAND at 3:15pm!
July 25,2010-Manuelito arrives at 9:35pm at Logan Intn'l Airport,Boston,MA
August 5,2010-FINALLY MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 23,2010-Filed for AOS at the International Institute of RI $1400!
December 23,2010-Work authorization received.
January 12,2011-RFE

guess what, my fiance opened an account at hsbc ca,

he sent me the atm here in ph,

and thats it! no extra charges.

you just have to withdraw on any hsbc atm here or

metrobank atm will also do.

no identification problem,

no extra charges...

Ditto...

Any Bank ATM will do, as long as the logo on the back of the card matches the bank's participation i.e. cirrus, mac, plus, star....

i'm just a bit hesitant with other banks, they may have hidden charges or something...

at least with HSBC and METROBANK im sure it has ZERO CHARGES...

you know how hard it is to transact with bank problems with our local bank offices here...

If you have any bank account in the US and send the family an ATM card, then you will incur the US bank's fee's and the local withdrawl fee.

But, it is less expensive then using the money transfer services.

we usually reconcile balances and it seems that theres no charges with my withdrawal here in ph

i usually have him check the balance instead of me checking it here (coz i know it will have charges)

i only do withdrawals here. there maybe charges but i guess its so minimal to be noticed.

we have used moneygram sometimes, and western union, they are both safe. so dont worry. just give the control number and sometimes they ask questions, like pet's name or birthday like that. It is safe and moneygram is cheaper to send money.
