Moneygram

Does anybody here have used Moneygram before or still using it until now? We are in the process of experimenting on how to send money to my family in the Philippines. Western Union so far is efficient but their service fee is way too expensive. We have used Xoom as well but it is kind of hassle for my dad to travel to the next town just to get the money. And also, I've heard of some problems that customers have experienced with Xoom so we stopped using it too. While we were at Wal-Mart 2 nights ago, we found out that they offer Moneygram services. Before we try it, I want to know if any of you has ever encounered problems on both ends (sender and receiver)? Or if is an efficient way to send money to your loved ones and how strict they are (payput location) when it comes to identifications of the recipient.

Any replies will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Mae,moneygram is fast and safe and cheap. We are using that until now. Before my fiancee used western union but cost too much for the charge. He tried xoom also but like u said its too much hassle.Moneygram is better. And yes they have it at Wal-mart but u can send online also using their website.Magkalaban sila ng western union.Plus ur family can get it Cebuana if BDO is close already. Here in my hometown..they just opened a moneygram office where people can go and they are open Monday to Sunday 8am to 5pm.

Btw,ur family just need 2 valid ID's and the reference number.

I've used moneygram to Jamaica. It was easy and cheaper.

Mae,

Agree that Western Union fees are high, but service is fast.

Don't know about Moneygram, but it's advertised on TFC a lot.

We use Philippine National Bank's online Web Remit. My asawa's family lives in a very rural part of western Leyte, but PNB has branches lots of places, including near her family's home. We had her father open an ATM peso account at the nearest branch, then we set up the web remit account to send money direct from our checking to his account. Recently an ATM opened closer to her home town. The transaction fee had been $5 for up to $1000, but now has been bumped to $8. The service takes about 3-4 days before money is available there, and he can withdraw using the ATM card. Very easy, convenient and safe. We'll bee using this account for cash access when we visit next year so we don't need to hassle with changing absolutely perfect US $100 bills.

Currently I use Xoom. Lower fees than WU, but exchange rate is lower too. It is about 3 clicks to send money once the account is set up, and she can get the money at ANY Cebuana Lhuillier location.

$3.99 for 100.00 and 6.99 for 500.00. The current exchange rate at their site is 43.168 to 1. This seems like a lot until you actually do the math on an exchange, even if the market exchange is 45.000 to 1.

I AGREE TO MICHAEL AND MILAHJEAN, WEBREMIT IS VERY CHEAP COMPARED TO THE REST. YOU CAN ALSO DO TRANSACTIONS ONLINE. JUST HAVE A PNB ACCOUNT OPEN OR IF NOT, THERE IS AVAILABLE LOCATIONS LISTED IN PNB WEBSITE.

I THINK MONEY GRAM IS RELIABLE ANYWAY.
