Wondering about NVC package.

Hello folks,

I did ask this question a couple of weeks ago but haven’t really got a satisfactory answer. So here I go again. My husband has already paid both IV and AOS bills online and the system does show it being paid, but we are waiting for the instruction package from NVC before we send the required documents.

I know most of you will suggest us to send it as it is, since we have got the payment receipt page, but the problem is our case is a bit different, we don’t have any civil document of our marriage, only religious one from authoritarian board in India, that is Araya Samaj which conducts Hindu marriages. That’s the reason I (and our lawyer) wants to wait for the package and see if NVC asks for any additional documents or not.

Anyways, what I would like to know is, specifically from people who did the online payment, did you guys ever received packages from NVC, if so, how long did it take after the payment was accepted?

And also from other folks who paid their bills through cheques or Money order (I am not sure what NVC accepts as the mode of payment), how long did it take for you guys to receive the package from NVC?

I have another side question, if we ever get an RFE from NVC for anything, how many days/weeks does NVC provides to submit back the requested RFE?

Thanks for all the help

Takes about 2 weeks to receive the package from NVC, and even the RFE take 1-2 week to be received and another 1 week to be processed. Look at my timeline I had an RFE from NVC and it took NVC additional 2 weeks to complete the case becuase of an RFE.

I would advise to mail all the documents to NVC and wait for an RFE or you could submit the proof at the time of interview in india, is another option

Really? can I submit additional proof if they ask in India? My husband will be coming to India during the interview, I was hoping, may be we can register the marriage in Mumbai (though I am from Andaman Islands, but there is no way I can register the existing marriage within a week here, will take 40 days exact in Andaman), takes around a weeks time I guess in Mumbai.

Its been 3 weeks but we haven't yet received the package, I did call NVC couple of times, but the operators are giving the same usual answer, to wait for 6 weeks.

Honestly I am not that much in a hurry right now(making plans financially too), I will be happy if we can get a November or even December date for interview, but would be a perfect timing if we can get the package in another week or two's time.

The whole point of paying online is to print out your cover sheet and send your papers without waiting. You will only get the general papers that everyone else gets from the NVC, so don´t wait for them. Send the papers and then if there´s a problem, they´ll send you an RFE. You can inquire about the RFE from an operator and then send the required documents. There really is no need to wait for any papers that the NVC sends you now. We got ours in the mail after we finished the entire process!

That is correct. They will not send you specific papers for your case. They only send out a form letter telling you to send in your documents.

If you do get an RFE, I received mine 4 days after the RFE, and sent everything in the next day that I received the letter.

I paid online and they don't send out the packages because you can print it out there. Once you paid your IV bill there is a link for the instructions, you can refer to that to see what kinds of documents you need. If you don't have a marriage certificate there are several other documents you can use in place such as the document you have written about. For RFE's I was told from 6-8 weeks but it is much faster I have seen people get a response 2 days upto 2 weeks. I hope that helps. Just send in all your documents asap so if they do ask for anything you have time to get it without delaying your processing. Keep us updated. Good luck

Here is my specific question about RFE, what I want to know is, how many days do they provide to submit the RFE.

I am not that concern about how many days they take to process after they receive our RFE, but more likely whats the time period they give out to submit the requested information.

The thing is, if we get an RFE, it would only mean we will get it for a civil marriage certificate, so to provide it, my husband will have to come in India and register the marriage, might take 40 days if we are doing it in my Home state, might take only a week if we are doing in some other state. So I want to be prepared about what to expect in an RFE situation.

As far as I know, with the initial i-130 processing, they give out a time limit of 82 days if you have any RFE with the i-130 petition. But I am not sure how long does it take with NVC.

I hope I am not confusing you all with my question.

When the NVC tell you there is a RFE for your case, it would take a week to receive the notice in the mail and there is no time frame in which you can respond bases on my RFE notice and you should respond at the earliest to the RFE in order to complete the case.

And whats the current status of your case, have you submitted the financial docs or not.

Thanks Chintan,

My current status is that bills have been paid for both AOS and IV,but thanks to our darling Lawyer, he is insisting (more likely refusing) to send any paper work to NVC till he doesn't receive the package from NVC.

I am sorry for not understanding you question first time around. They give you 6-8 weeks for that as well. You can call NVC if you want to know if it is ok for an extension for the amount of days it takes. Another person who is on VJ took about 2 months for her to reply to NVC and her case was completed after 1 week of them receiving the documents. Good luck
