Argghhhh!

Just went to the SSA office in Brooklyn this morning to get Habibi's SSN. They were very nice, no wait... everything toute suite.

BUT, somehow between entering my fiance's data in JFK airport and transfering it to the USCIS supercomputer, they spelled his name wrong and made him 4 years younger. They SSA office said they'd still issue him a number, but it will take up to 8 weeks! And i have to make an infopass appointment w/ USCIS.

Has this happened to anyone else? And would you please tell me that this is not a big deal and can be resolved quickly?

i know it is a small bump in the road, but still i feel like this... :girlwerewolf2xn:

Thank you for any insight,

hz

Did the SSA office tell you to make an INFOPASS appointment?

The normal verification procedure is an inital verification while you are at the office, if that doesn't verify they do a secondary electronic verification request and that normally takes at least a few days to come back. The response from that can be that immigration needs to see a copy of the immigration document(s) and the copies are sent to be verified with Form G-845.

If the electronic request says status can't be verified the SSN application is denied and they then tell you to contact immigration.

I would contact the SSA office to find out if the secondary electronic verification was submitted and has a response been received or if a G-845 has been sent.

Hi I Quit,

Thanks for your post...

The woman we worked with at SSA was very nice and seemed matter-of-fact about the whole thing. She kinda made it sound like this happens all the time...

Basically, she entered all the correct information into the computer, and handed us a stamped formed that verifies we applied for the card today. It also says that they have to

"verify the documents you gave us to show your citizenship or alien status with the Federal, State, or local office in the US that issued the documents. This may take up to eight weeks.

"If that office verifies the authenticity of yuor document(s), we will mail you an SSN card. If that office does not verify your documents, you are not eligible for a SSN card and we will inform you of this in writing."

She said they would communicate with USCIS via e-mail to work it out, but that i should call USCIS. And of course, when i called they said to make an infopass appointment (the earliest of which is 8/13).

So i don't know what all that means. Can i be hopeful that they figure it all out on their own? Does our local USCIS office already have copies of my SO's documents?

And the thing that worries me the most:

This is going to seriously affect my fiance's chances of getting employment these next 2 months, isn't it? :(

He is already beside himself about not having work... it's only been 12 days.

Any advice?

Thanks,

hz

Hi! We also had major SSA problems... it turns out due to the same problem (name entry incorrect). The woman at the SSA told us to get an INFOPASS appt as well.

At the INFOPASS appt., they said that we would have to go to the nearest POE and get the name fixed there (the airport).

However, you've already done the application, so it may or may not take you any longer if you go to your nearest POE with your papers and get a new I-94.

AOS & getting the SSN & the I-693

6/13/08 Applied for SSN for David ----- TRIP 1; 6/23/08 Went back to SSA 'cuz the person didn't pc all documents (rec'd letter from them) ----- TRIP 2

7/2/08 Received David's health insurance cards! Yay!

7/3/08 Went back to SSA; they said come back 7/9 if he still hasn't received it ----- TRIP 3

7/8/08 Got list of vaccines he still needed from CS by fax/phone; tested for immunity to MMR (only vaccine still needed) at our family dr

7/9 & 7/10/08 Went back to SSA, card still not received - Denied opportunity to apply for replacement ----- TRIP 4; Went back to SSA again to apply for a replacement card - Talked to a supervisor this time, POE people entered his last name incorrectly ----- TRIP 5; went to get David's ID thru the State, denied - instructions wrong on website; measles test inconclusive, another test needed; requested new lease

7/14/08 SSA called me in regards to problems at local SSA office

7/15/08 INFOPASS appt to fix POE name input error and then went to airport to fix POE name error

7/17/08 Received SSN card in mail and went to get state ID

7/21/08 State ID received in the mail and tested again for measles immunity

7/29/08 MMR shot #2 given and dropped off papers at Civil Surgeon (CS)

7/31/08 Picked up I-693, completed by local CS, (I paid $25, don't be fooled)

8/3 - 8/6/08 Worked on forms I-485, G-325A, I-864, I-765 and I-131; sent to Chicago - YESSS!

8/11/08 NOA1 for AOS, EAD and AP; 9/2/08 Transfered to CSC; 9/4/08 Biometrics

10/24/08 Rec'd AP; 10/27/08 Rec'd EAD; 11/24/08 Rec'd GC

OMG, are you serious?? :protest:

Jeeezzz... i'm sorry, i'm needing to vent... i really hate this system. why, constantly, are we punished for someone else's mistakes in this process?

at first the SSA was very courteous to us, took the documents, and explained it would all be taken care of via e-mail.

Then, i was advised to make an INFOPASS Appointment...which took 2 weeks to get (we are going next Wednesday.)

Now, we are waiting... my Habeeb just got offered a job, but it is dependent on the SSN, and i don't think they are going to hold the job for him forever.

i really hope we don't have to go to POE... i'm really losing faith in everything... why are we so meticulous in this process, if it can all be undermined with 6 seconds of someone's inattentiveness?

i really hope we don't have to go to POE...

thanks for the info though.

Sorry, I Quit...

i don't understand your post.

I looked at the website you sent, and it links to a page to submit questions and use the same telephone numbers I already have. I've already submitted questions via e-mail & telephone locally & nationally, and I'm not being given any answers from the SSA end, as they maintain it is an Immigration issue.

My concern is how long it is going to take to resolve this issue, and now... are we going to have to return to POE, and if so... how long is that going to take?

(Called MIGRA as well, by the way... they aren't much help either.)

So you have sent an e-mail to SSA through the Website link I provided?
