Bill also sounds different than people in his hometown.

He's an hour away from Boston so the infamous accent surrounds us all the time, though we have no idea why he has never picked it up! He sounds pretty "generic".

My hubby used to love my voice, now he just can't wait for me to shut up.

My accent changes depending on where I am. I don't do it consiously, or at least not anymore. When I moved to dublin from my home town my accent changed very slightly, and people teased me in my home town for it. Then I moved to London, I was working on the phone, so I changed how I pronounced certain things so people could understand me more easily. I think some of it stuck. Now my MIL says that she doesn't think I have much of an accent, so I suppose in the years of living with C, I've aquired some american too. However if I'm talking to someone from my home town on the phone, especiallyl my mum, my accent immediately - and unconsiously - switches back to what it was when I was 17. Weird.

Yeah - I noticed when I was out here a couple of years ago I started picking up little bits here and there - not enough to sound American but it was there. As soon as I got on the plane home and was surrounded by Brits, my accent just went back to my lovely Bristolian

Bit late on this one, but suffice to say that in the one-horse town 'er indoors lives in, I get that "oooh I luuuuuuuurve your accent" ####### all the time. At first, it was quite flattering/amusing, but after the 6,000th time, I felt like shooting myself in the head. Nobody's heard of Southampton either. I tell people it's an hour-and-a-half from London, and that the Titanic sailed from there. They seem happy then.

Amusingly, having seen the reaction that my accent got from her compatriots, she assumed that when she opened her mouth in the U.K. she'd get the same kind of positive response - wrong!!!!!!!!!!

Well I've just got back from the States and not one person mentioned my accent. Though One of Tom's friends said she couldn't wait to meet me and hear my voice!

I lost the "t" sound a while back. Rather than "beTTer" I'll often say "beDDer". When I say "Okay" it also sounds Americanised. Not something I deliberately set out to do, but after nearly 2 years of hearing nothing but American accents, I guess you change without thinking.

I remember the first time I realised about the "t" I almost cried. Now I don't give a sh!t.
