I wonder how Bush can still sleep at night, making decisions like that.

He seems to sleep just fine considering the other monumentous decisions he has made. Why should the death of one be any different than the decision to send thousands to their death?

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensedregistered pharmacist". (because somebody gives a damn)

Indeed! One death is nothing compared to the over 4,000 he has killed in this war. And hes lost no sleep over them

I don't think he cares. It's not like he is running for re-election.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

The death penalty is so wrong, on so many levels. An eye for an eye! Is god such a savage that he/she/it is responsible for such truly crappy phrases?

They died in the service of their country. It's what soldiers have done since ancient times. Bush did not kill them. He is Commander in Chief, but the decision was made on many levels of government by many people.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

Of course they died in the service to their country and even humanity if you want to take it there. No question they died doing their duty. But they were sent to their deaths unjustifiably and only one person can ultimately be responsible for that and he tap dances every day trying to justify his decision to send them into harms way. Frankly I am tired of George II looking at us on TV and telling us it was all for a good cause and expecting us to believe his lies. I am insulted that he thinks we are stupid enough to believe him.

As for the decision to send one murdering soldier to his death for the crimes he committed, it should barely be news. It is a matter for the courts, the families, the guilty and whatever God the guilty may believe in. It is not headline news.

You do know that the phrase "an eye for an eye" isn't about revenge, right? It's been twisted in modern times and lost the original meaning. The intent behind the creation of the "eye for an eye" system was the idea that the punishment should fit the crime. In other words, if someone murdered your spouse or child, they would receive the same (or similar) penalty. It was primarily meant as a method to deter criminal activity, since it was theorized that most people who commit truly heinous crimes (such as murder or rape) would not wish to be murdered or raped themselves or see someone close to them suffer in such a manner.

Whether or not it truly works is something else entirely. The death penalty is a fantastic idea in theory. Unfortunately, the crimes it is used for (murder) can often occur when someone isn't thinking rationally. Since this is the case, they won't likely stop to consider the consequences of being put to death themselves, therefore the entire merit of deterrence is lost.

Of course they died in the service to their country and even humanity if you want to take it there. No question they died doing their duty. There's a huge difference between soldiers dying in combat versus a murder/rapist being executed. The former is doing his or her legally assigned job (for which they volunteered) and are attempting to defend their home country. The former is doing nothing more than harming innocent people for their own sick gratification and in the end, being removed from society as punishment and to protect others. The two are like apples and oranges; yes, they're fruit, but the similarity ends there. ;)

Not really sure where you were headed with your post but I in no way meant to imply that our soldiers performing their duty in any way is similar to premeditated murder. You kind of switched up in the middle by starting with dying by war v. execution and ended up with killing in the name of war v. murder. I think if you read back a little you will see that I was responding to a post about the justification of the deaths of the soldiers in Iraq and who is responsible for those deaths.

As for defending their home country, I do not believe for one minute that is what the war in Iraq is about. No matter how many times George II and his cronies wag their finger and tell us to be afraid and they are here to save the day, will I ever be gullible enough to believe their propaganda.

When considering the issue of the death penalty being used as a deterrent, the result is the same, the guilty will not be able to perpetrate the crime again. Since some people simply do not care about consequences, the meaning of the death penalty is certainly less about deterrence and more about prevention of recidivism.

I guess God is savage enough to allow wars to be fought in his/her name, why wouldn't I believe that God is savage enough to dream up such a crappy phrase. By the way, which God are you refering to?

Exodus 21:23 "But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life,

Leviticus 24:20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has injured a man, so it shall be inflicted on him.

Deuteronomy 19:13 "You shall not pity him, but you shall purge the blood of the innocent from Israel, that it may go well with you.

Just my opinion...

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensedregistered pharmacist". (because somebody gives a damn)
