Piyush,

You used the right name that is Geetaben. The US consulate will look at your wife's birth certificate not her mother's passport. You can get her mother's name changed on the PASSPORT in one day. If you can get her mothers name changed quickly then go that route.

to add to this further, although u r right that it would be easier in india to get the name change done on the birth certificate but you have already sent the same name on the G-325a...so the only better option for you is getting it fixed on the passport...like i said earlier getting it done on the passport is not a huge deal either..its easy and not atall painful...but you have to go to the actual passport office (which could be a pain as they usually have an office in the capital city of the state which could mean a few hours of travel)..but they just add the change on one of the pages on her passport, sign it and provide a legal stamp so its considered valid.

if you have it correctly spelt in two places, i doubt u r gonna have a problem...

but if u want to get it corrected, the passport office can fix that problem for u in no time..my wife got all of these (her father's name and mother's name) things fixed in just a few minutes...

if i would have been in your shoes, i would get it fixed for the "you never know" moment.

Good luck with whatever decision u make!!
