Hopefully in about a week I will be a US citizen.

I've on this board for years, so we all know the importance of US citizenship.

but, what is most important to you?

Getting a government job of course, was talking to my wife about this yesterday after we saw that 40% of the government workers are due to retire in a city we would both like to live in, early retirement pay, and zillion paid holidays and sick days each year.

Or maybe she would like to run for congress for two years, get a lifetime of free medical, than a big fat job with a pharmaceutical, oil, or a government contract company. She would never hack it with the USCIS, she is way to nice.

Not having any threat, however remote, of ever being told the two of us aren't allowed to live together in the same country. Since we're both equally US citizens, regardless of what happens now, deportation or refusal of entry are not in the picture.

Realistically, deportation or refusal of entry were never very likely with a Green Card, but spending those first months of our marriage apart made us hyper sensitive about ever having a repeat of the experience.

Gee, bringing in the people you love, traveling all over the world without worrying about getting back in time, voting, and the fear of never losing the one you brought here are such wonderful reasons for wanting to become a USC.

And I, the first responder have to talk about work as the reason. I need to get a life, LOL.

Plus... Biggest relief will be that there is no need to keep proof or show your life's privacy including how much you love your spouse to somebody else any more.

Why do I have to show my private life to somebody else for proof that I love my husband/wife, and how our marriage life is/was?

LOL, especially if you happened to be a tad older and that authority is young enough to be your kid with not enough brains to wipe the snot from their nose.

Getting hit from a hit and runner and becoming permanently disabled for SS benefits may be another reason for wanting USC, but would put that way way way down on the bottom of this list.

I concur :) I'm really looking forward to being able to vote in November. Not to mention, never having to deal with the USCIS again.

I've had 9 years of taxation without representation now -- since I'm in Boston, I keep threatening to throw a box of Lipton teabags into the Charles River to make a point :jest:

07-30-2004: EAD approved & received card

07-31-2004: AP approved - letter arrived 08-05-04

02-19-2005: AOS Interview letter arrived

05-09-2005: AOS interview (374 days from filing) - PR card arrived 05-12-05

Please seal it before throwing out into Charles River.

Do you know whether Charles River is connected to Wisconsin by any way or not ?

I could enjoy the box of Lipton teabags. ^^

It's been a while to vote, so I don't mind to vote this November if USCIS complete my N400 including oath ceremony by October 1, 2008.

I've on this board for years, so we all know the importance of US citizenship.

but, what is most important to you?

1. To be with my family anywhere they go without thinking of any paperwork need to renew or so..

2. To be able to compete with jobs, whether in the USA or other parts of the world that hires american only.

3. To be able to travel anywhere in the world without getting a visa.

4. To establish a good life with husband and kids.

5. To vote for someone who can change the world and make a difference.

6. Lastly, to get done with USCIS that made my stomach cramps in the visa process!

God is great.. My visa journey is over..
