Cannes critics left cold at Da Vinci Code screening

I've just seen the Da Vinci Code and need someone to explain the fuss -- what we basically have is a scooby do mystery for soduku fans with Tom and Audrey as Fred and Daphne (I half expected Ian McKellan to wip off a mask and scream "and I would have got away with this if it weren't for those meddling kids!")combined with religious theories that someone in the freshman dorm might come up with after a night hitting the bong.

LMFAO!!!!

Oh, and Tom Hanks looks like a potato wearing a wig.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I'd be interested to see it and hope it's still playing when I return from my trip to Germany and Istanbul in a few weeks. I guess I could try to catch it in Germany, but I don't want to see the dubbed version because it's usually worse.

I read the book and liked it, even though I had an issue with the stereotypical portrayal of the professor and the French woman (forgot their names). But that's just me... ;)

There are some church groups in Thailand trying to ban this movie in Thailand... for me, i'll go see it anyway, not about the religion ofcourse, coz i'm buddhist  and coz i'm in the US

I'm not Christian either, I was raised Hindu and know very little about Christianity. I found that watching Passion of the Christ was very frustrating for me since I could sense that there was a lot of imagery in the movie that I was just not getting. I stopped watching after about 30 minutes. I don't think I will watch this movie either, for the same reasons. The theme doesn't interest me and I don't have the background knowledge to fully grasp it (or be outraged at it ) either.

oh no, i dont have any back ground about it either, accept for my elementry school and university were both christian schools.. i know basic stuff  just I like the book - and the imagination  ... I didnt see Passion of the Christ coz i feel it's too much for me (i can watch a movie about christianity on discovery channel all the time ;) ), but in the Davincy Code, at least in the book, i feel that the connection to chirstianity is just a part, not whole of the movie. In my opinion it should be a fun movie (i love arts, history, mysteris, tales and stuff like that - and this movie should have it all  )

Crayola rocks!

and about the film... my wife (heavily catholic from south the borders) wants to see. I'll probably go too. I like T Hanks' acting. He's usually rather good. Philidelphia was a very good film, and think Denz did rather good in that too.

Having read the book I dont think that it is entirely important to understand christianity. The aspects that are used are explained ... and in some ways explained away.

The wife wants to see it so I'll probably go along with her.

Not read the book, but my mother-in-law and a close friend preferred Angels and Demons - and by all accounts The Da Vinci Code is a sequel in the best tradition of Barbara Cartland...

I did read Angels and Demons, and can't say I really liked it. It was melodramatic and the ending was so over the top it was frankly ridiculous. The last line of the book might as well have been out of a Roger Moore era Bond movie.

You haven't been to bed with a Yoga instructor...

Ugh - sent a shiver up my back!

Also... Why does Tom Hanks have a mullet in the movie? Might as well be:

MacGyver and the Da-Vinci Code

Anyone see any of those TV movies from the late 90's when they tried to bring back MacGyver (complete with mullet?). MacGyver discovers Atlantis - give me a break...
