Interview for AOS: When? Is there always an interview required?

Hi, a question about interview for AOS...

Is everybody always required to have an interview before AOS?

When do you go to the interview??

I understand that after applying for AOS, you have to go to a biometrics appointment. Then what? They approve EAD and AP, and before approving AOS, you have to go to an interview at the local office, is that right?? How long after sending the application and having the Biometrics done, in average?

Thanks...

Faustine

Hi

Not everybody has an interview it just depends.

When you submit your AOS application you will get an appointment for your biometrics after that you will receive your EAD and AP.

Then the waiting game begins until you either get your Green card approved without an interview or get an invitation to come to the interview.

Count on six to eight months after you submit your AOS....if there is to be an interview, at least. That is the current waiting time but it varies.

Most K1s get transferred to CSC and get the GC without an interview but some don't.

Anyone that filed an I-130 with the AOS is more than likely to have an interview.

After you submit your AOS package it will either be sent to the California Service Centre or to your local Field Office for processing.

If it is sent to California then it is very likely that you will not have an interview - this is not always the case though.

Mine was sent to Field Office and I had my interview and approval within 2 and a half months.

Processing times for either vary wildly - I was fortunate to be processed swiftly.

In relation to your earlier post relating to Advance Parole - my Advance Parole papers arrived shortly before my interview. However, I had to hand them in at the interview and it was another 2 weeks before I received my green card. So there was a two week period where I had no AP and no green card - had I had travel plans that were within that timeframe I would have had some problems.

Hence the inadvisability of making plans to leave the country before your green card is received.......even if you have received AP papers it can still be risky with possible interviews to atttend.

I also read that AP doesn't garantee to be accepted at the boundary. What does that mean?? Has anyone been denied at a POE with an AP in hand?? I am curious...

Maybe what Barbarella Uk meant was from NBC at missouri the AOS will be either transferred to CSC (most probably no interview) or to your local office (will be interviewed). SOmetimes what happened was , even after it was transferrred to CSC it was still sent back to NBC at missouri then to your local office for you to be interviewed. Its case to case basis  Hoping for a smooth journey for all of us :star:
