Ok, so I just mailed off the I-129 form on Friday. I know it's a super long wait till anything happens but I was wondering if there's anything my man in Japan can do to get things prepared on his end. What sort of goverment forms will he need eventually? Can he get things ahead of time or is there a time limit that the items need to be gotten in? Also...I'm hearing people talking about the cost of the medical. What?? Does he have to pay even more money to have a medical done? While this site has been very helpful for me in filing things on my end, I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what to expect next as far as fees and required items the beneficiary needs. Any help would be appreciated :)

Yeah, I've looked over that but it's mainly just what I need to send him. I've heard that he'll have to come up with his Family Register and everything. Is that true? Does it need to be translated? And can he do that ahead of time or does he need to wait till closer to the time of interviewing and such? That's kinda what I'm asking.

Someone from the Japan Portal would be more qualified to answer these other questions for you.... Good Luck in your Journey!

Well yout sent off the I-129F already, so any translations should of been with that packet. If USCIS requires more information (RFE) then he might need additional forms.

On my packet I had to send in a translated copy of a divorce decree and Birth/ family registry. I say Birth/Family registry because all they needed was a birth certificate, but the translation was both.Actually they took the divorce decree and Birth/family registry and it was all done on 1 paper, I have not received an RFE yet, so I think all is ok. As for the medical, I've asked similar questions about prices, never got a real accurate estimate. I had my fiance call the hospital and they said it was 25000 Yen just for the normal medical check. Vaccinations can be costly, I've seen a post on here that one certain shot was 65000 Yen. He can also have his shot finished in the U.S. That's what we plan to do if she needs shots. In some cases if they have went to a Dr. regualrly, they might not need any shots. He should get copies of all his Medical records, espically any serious operations. Have them translated into English incase he needs them later.

Right now you can get your last 3 year tax transcripts ready, get a letter ready for proof of on going relationship but don't date it yet because the date shold be closer to when you get the NOA2. You can fill out your affidavit of support forms, but do not sign them yet, you need them notarized also, these should also be signed and dated much closer to your NOA2 date.

Try going through this link first. http://tokyo.usembassy.gov/e/visa/tvisa-niv-kchecklist.html

This is US embassy's website and there is the checklist for Japanese K-1 Visa beneficiary. Your fiance has to submit his family resister as birth certificate. Of course, it needs to be translated (no need to be notarized, he can translate and sign).

Your fiance still have plenty of time to receive packet 3, and there's not many things he can do right now... family resister thing is pretty easy & quick one  US embassy doesn't care about issuance date of family resister, but the police does (should be in 6 months when he applies police record). So, if I were him, I would wait for a while to avoid visiting city office twice, and just study what I should prepare upon the check list.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info everyone. The link to the embassy's webpage was especially helpful. I hate waiting so anything I can do to make it feel like I'm doing something is good for me. Although I am getting a little annoyed at all the fees that keep popping up @_@

My wife just had the medical. She went to the Tokyo British clinic and it ended up being almost $500 USD with two vaccines (not sure which ones). Of course there was the shinkansen fare on top of that so our total was a bit higher then that. :( I also read that post about the 65000 JPY vaccine, I am glad we didn't need it.

Gah...that's horrible :( Luckily since he'll be coming out on a K1 Visa, he doesn't need to get the vaccines in Japan. He just needs to have them done before he files for an AOS in the future.

I just found out today that I was mistaken about that vaccine costing 65,000 JPY. Actually the amount was 60,000 JPY and that was for the entire medical plus the vaccination(s). I just wanted to make note of that for anyone who came across this thread and my previous post.

Sorry for the bad info! :(
