Actually there are some trips to places that would be cheaper than just the ticket to Nigeria. I know right now a RT ticket to Nigeria is running about 2200 and by just pulling up a travel site I can see offers to from 780 that is 1400 less. How much is a ticket from Nigeria to there ? If you try this with several locations you can probably find somewhere where it is really cheaper to meet at. Yes it would be lovely if you could just pop over here on a visa waiver probram like so many others do but that isn't possible. We have to deal with situation we find ourselves in. None of us like the fact we don't have much choice but wait this process out while others make monthly visits during their wait. When most of us were first attracted to each other we fought with how to meet. Jospeh makes about the same money as you and owns several plots of land yet he tried twice to get a visa here and was rejected both times. He really wanted to be the one that travelled because of my work and family. But it wasn't to be and we had a huge delay because of that. If you really want to make this happen as quickly as possible then think outside the box. Seeing that you will have more trouble with travel documents than her where can you go easily ??

Yes, I think we need to do some research to see which options we have, when it comes to the cheapest way for us to meet. Be it in Baltimore in somewhere else. The Carribean is still the first thing that comes to mind for me, but the world is a huge place, isn't it?

i'm not sure if this information will help at all, but my husband- a ghanaian- traveled to the US on a B1/B2 visa last year. it seems that the entire basis upon which he received the visa was the fact that he was married to an american that was living IN ghana. he took my passport for the interview and was able to show my ghanaian residence permit. we had compiled all sorts of evidence to prove he would return to ghana, but they basically just asked him where i was (outside the embassy), and encouraged him to start his immigrant visa application. end of interview! however, i got the distinct impression that his visa would have been denied had i been living in the US. my sister's husband is russian (i know, ridiculous international family) and he was denied a tourist visa to the US (when he was her fiance) because he could not prove strong enough ties to russia. he eventually entered on a K1 visa.

so, to reiterate what others have said, i would also recommend that your fiance try to visit you in nigeria. even if it's for a week or less- i know it seems crazy to pay so much for a plane ticket for such a short visit, but it would be a lot easier than you struggling to get a tourist visa. if she really cannot make it there, and you go for the tourist visa, you have to demonstrate to the consulate that you are 100% absolutely returning to nigeria. this can be supported through employment, schooling, finances, property, and strong family and/or community ties. once the embassy realizes that you are engaged to an american, it is going to be very difficult for you to convince them that you would actually return to nigeria (even if it is your intention! frustrating, but that's how it is.)

i would strongly suggest that your fiance try to make her way to nigeria. good luck!!

Some of you talked about meeting somewhere else other than the U.S., so now I'm looking for info (websites?) for cheap travel from Nigeria. You mentioned China with the ongoing Olympics. I'm also looking at the Carribean. What else? Any more ideas? :)
