OK so I've seen various different recommendations on VJ for what is required in translating documents. Those of you who went through the london embassy - did you require the translations to be authorized by a notary public?

I have mine translated by a languages teacher who has certified that she is able to translate them. Don't want to pay lawyers to certify this as well if it is not necessary... then again would not want to hold up the process... cancelled flights would be more costly!! (and all my family are booking to come to the wedding at the end of October!!)

He is the USA applicant, me the Scot. I was born in Peru though and have a police report from the dominican republic - so 2 certificates to translate from spanish. I have them done but not sure I understand the legal part now... do you just look up 'notary public' on line for the city you are living in???
