When visiting in Colombia, I am usually referred to as, "Moreno". That doesn't carry the negative connotation as, "Negrito" does. If I am describing who I am to someone who has never met me, I refer to myself as, "African-American." That way, they can get a picture of who I am - culturally. If I could choose what I would call myself, it would be, "Costeño". Yea! :dance:

A Costeño is someone who comes from "The Caribbean Coast." These are people of color who originally landed during slave times in Colombia and stayed in the region over countless generations. It isn't someone who shops at Costco. Thats the fat, flabby American woman in the Foreign Wife vs. American Wife thread... :angry:
