 According to the embassy website (http://georgia.usembassy.gov/visasfiancee.html), "The American Citizen petitioner may not attend the interview with his or her fiancé(e)"

What the heck is that about? Everywhere I've read and all the people I've talked to say that although it is not required, it is STRONGLY recommended that I be there for my fiance's interview, if for nothing more than to answer any questions about my ability to support him in the US and, of course, to support our assertion that this is not a sham engagement.

Has anyone seen this in Georgia or anywhere else?

You can be in country or waiting outside. Many embassies have had elaborte frauds where the people communicated through signs. Cross your arms for no, rub your hnds for yes.. that kind of thing that they won't allow you to be in the same room. It is a country by country thing. Nigeria also doesn't allow you to go in to the interview. Many believe that if a case is marginal and your SO can say that you are right there helps. If you can't make it then leave it in Gods hands. I can't attend because of work commitments and a son starting school. I just made really sure that I sent everything properly and that I will be glued to the phone.

I went to the Interview in Philippines with my Fiance last month.

Of the 200 people their on K1 Visa, I only saw about 5 Americans.

I was allowed to attend the interview with the Consular Officer, but it's totally up to the Consuar Officer.

In my opinion, there is no reason for the Petitoner to attend.

But for me it was a great reason to see my fiance again and tour the Philippines with her..

Every embassy is different. You're still in the early stages of the process. I would call the US embassy in Georgia once they have received the approved application from the NVC. If you are planning to go to Georgia anyway once the interview is scheduled, you're fiance can take you're passport with him to the interview to show that you're there.

I wouldn't worry to much about attending the interview. From what I've read on VJ, the majority of petitioners do not attend their SO's interview. You'll be fine either way!

Wishing you a speedy journey!!!

In every difficulty lies an island of opportunity.

Do you really want to take that chance? Seven words: BE ON THE PREMISES DURING THE INTERVIEW. In case this isn't clear, seven more words: BE ON THE PREMISES DURING THE INTERVIEW!

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I went to joan's interview, they will not let you attend, but she showed them my passport, makes them know we care enough and will do everything we can for the visa.

Some allow. Some don't. I didn't even attempt to go to Andre's. I wanted to fly down and come back with him when he finally had it in hand.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip
