Do i need to go to SSN office and show them the 10 years GC?,or they update the status automatically?

I head from friend that after 5 weeks from your getting the 10 y GC ,you receive letter from SSN office tell you about yours SSN update, i didn't receive any letter yet and it more that 5 weeks.

I was told by the local SSN office when I contacted them that I need to update them when I receive my 10 year card and they will update the information on their files. I am not going to assume someone else will do it for me - i suspect you should notify them directly.

I have never heard anything or see no indication on the SSA website Social Security Numbers and Immigrants that if you have an unrestricted SS card that you have to do anything at all.
