There are other big bad companies to go after.. why doesn't anyone bash them?

Maybe because like the article said....they are the biggest fish around right now. Bigger than anyone else... *shrug*

let's see.. what store do I hate? hmm.... oh I got it BEST BUY! or let's call them Worst Purchase and start bashing them.

ok...knock your socks off...I have nothing but positive experiences the few times I've made a purchase with them...so can't jump in there. But I'm sure you'll have company if you choose to start a Worst Purchase Bash Party... :D

They set up shop in small towns, drive the little merchants out with "great low prices" then they raise them as their competition has dirt thrown over their gravesites. I lived in NE Pa and can't tell you how many little downtowns were wiped off the face of the earth because of Walmart.

The people in the small town are the ones shopping at Walmart and letting it change their community. We want low prices, we don't always think about the cost to other things (jobs, quality etc) because it isn't affecting us negatively at that moment. The effects of going to Walmart for low prices are no different than a lot of other things - suburbs, driving, packaging, tuna! my head spins when I think about the chain of events before and after every action I take.

Another reason Walmart type stores don't appeal to me is because all these big box stores require suburbs and giant parking lots and highways and sprawl. I hate sprawl.

wal-mart is capitalism at its most evil form...

I am not anti-capitalism.. but.. wal-mart has a goal to wipe-out union stores who sell american products... they did it in my small town, and that's their goal all over the country.

Employee's at our local meijer have a union, their employees are paid $2-$3 more per hour than wal-mart employees... everything was just fine and dandy, prices were decent at meijer until wal-mart came shaking their tail in the neighborhood... now our meijer is falling apart for cheap goods sold across the street..

Kinda funny how I see the big trucks that have the "Buy American" stickers at Wal mart..

when the Quebec employees won the right to unionize, Walmart closed the store down.

not that a company doesn't have a right to do that if they want. Naturally, they gave a different reason.

I think people are bashing Walmart not so much because it is a large company but because it is THE company most responsible for destroying the economic base of this country.

Of course it's an individual choice to shop at Walmart, but as consumers and inhabitants of this country, we sometimes need to think about what our actions and choices will do in the long run. I know that's not a very popular thought, but how will we explain to our children and grandchildren how the most prosperous country on the planet turned into a poor nation? Walmart is impoverishing (not sure if that's a word, but you get the idea) communities in the US at a rapid pace. It's not just that small stores disappear (has happened before and is not only Walmart's fault), but the heavy reliance on cheap imports from factories abroad, the locations it choses which target a population still able to afford cars, the environmental damage and so on. There are already groups in the population who can't afford to shop at Walmart, and this groups will continuously grow. Eventually Walmart will pull out because it is not very profitable anymore to sell anything in the US, and then what?

Lisa, it's because for vlasic to sell their pickles to walmart at that price, they have to lay off people and outsource to cheaper labor. people lose jobs because of that.

Nobody's forcing Vlassic to sell anything.

If I was in the market to buy a pickle, I'd buy a Vlassic cos of that talking stork, lol. And I'd buy it at Publix.

However...if VLASSIC CHOOSES to outsource jobs to stay competitive within these big box stores...if VLASSIC CHOOSES to lay off Americans and worry about 'bottom line'...well, I honestly can't see why the culpability lays anywhere but at VLASSIC!

It's all about responsibility, people...let's stop shifting the blame to big bad Wal-Mart. They are not my fave either, but ####'s sake, next they'll be to blame for the low tide & global warming.
