I always knew Walmart was a terrible employer, but I never knew how bad.

I will never ever ever step foot in a Walmart store again. Has anyone else seen this movie? A part of me wishes it wasn't true.

For those that have not seen the movie, here's a link with many of the points.

here we go again Americas national pass time bash Wal Mart.

No-one forces anyone to either supply their goods to or to shop at WalMart.

Where someone shops is a matter of choice and thats fine by me but to criticise a retailer for creating a lean machine that brings low prices to the consumer really is interesting. If you dont want to shop there fine but plenty of people watch every dime and want the lowest price and want what WalMart bring.

As an employee of WalMart I take offence at the "terrible employer" tag. Instead of your article from unknown sources (or unknown axe to grind) I will state facts as they affect me. I work as a cashier earning more than any other job with no experience (including other stores in the area) that i could find in the area ($2 an hr more not cents). They employed me, as a new immigrant (and checked all my paperwork to enable me to work) when no-one else seemed to want to offer me an oportnuity. When I ran into problems with working the hours they wanted they worked with me to find a suitable schedule for both of us.

Any employer the size of WalMart will have many disgruntled employees but as an employee I know they are NOT the terrible employer some portray them as. But I am also aware that as a non-union employer they are the target of massive anti-propoganda as the unions are desperate for the revenue unionising would bring. But when you look at some of the large unionised companies ie GM do you wonder why Walmart doesnt want them?

Shop where you want but don't believe everything you read nothing is ever as black and white as it seems and when the consumer stops requiring low prices maybe Walmart will stop pproviding them - I am more curious as to why when all the other stores charge more why they aren't paying their staff more?

OK I shall await ET's arrival in this thread and in the meantime head off to work for the terrible demon my employer is

As an ex-union rep in the UK I must say I don't like to see employers refusing employees the protection a (good) union can afford. They have no other 'rights' than withdrawing their labor, and cannot hope to take on such a large corp alone if they get into genuine issues with that corp.

I refer there to legal issues.

A GOOD union won't hold a gun to an employer's head - they will negotiate for the best solution for BOTH parties, and make sure no-one gets steam-rollered.

As for Walmart's practices and certain manufacturer's reactions to them; all I have to say is if you lay down with dogs you get fleas.

I went into Wal-Mart this past Saturday to buy a mother's day card. It was convenient. But once I got in there I regretted it all. It was like a war zone. Stuff knocked off shelves and not enough cashiers. So there were long lines. Grrrrr I vow never to enter a Wal-Mart again. It stinks!!!!

The shopping experience sucks at the Wal-Mart. Target is better. It's as simple as that.

Oh my, what I would only do for a Wal-Mart over here in Egypt! Seriously though, I go to Wal-Mart because of the "falling prices." :P I'm a poor girl and I save money any way I can, even when that means fighting off the crowds. Funny thing, I'm sure Wal-Mart will be one of my first stops w hen I'm back in the states.

Thanks for posting this. I was actually about to post a similar article, concerning a recent book on Walmart. And interestingly, the article I read was published in "The American Conservative" which shows that resistance to Walmart is not just coming from the "liberal or left fringe". Here's the link.

Walmart is not capitallism the American way because it runs counter to American interests and the American Dream. It destroys communities by destroying American factories and shops.
