Touch as far as I could understand is that when the date change when you logged in to check your status online. The date of "last update" changes when USCIS touched your file.

I also asked that "case is received and pending" here in VJ. They said it means that your file was entered into their system and pending for adjudication.

hi , first u should hav an account and then u can log in and check ur portfolio, everytime u notice a date change that means that ur petitions r being touched , i hope it was helpful , take care

Thank you so much for the information. I got the same querry too about the technical word "touched".. I'm glad to share that when i opened my case portfolio in the uscis site, our case was touched after a month we received the NOA 1 notice.

June 9, 2008 = NOA 1 received

July 9, 2008 = Touched

Dec 17, 2008 = NOA 2 received thru email

Dec 22, 2008 = NOA 2 received: hard copy

Dec 24, 2008 = NVC hard copy received with MNL no.
