Hello friend,

I am born and raised ALABAMA. My wife is Filipina. Our sons are dual citizens. We live in Birmingham. Rose loves the people here. We have never had any problems here. When we returned to the Philippines for two months our neighbors check our home every day, fed our cat, collected out mail and even drove our cars. We have keys and codes for our neighbors homes and take care of there home when they are away. Our neighbors are great.

Rose and I have not encounter any problems because of our marriage. The only problem that we sometimes have is when people ask me about my grandchildren. The "grandchildren" are my children. I am 64 and our sons are; James, three-years and John, three months. Rose is 38.

Remember that the South is known for strong religious beliefs and hospitality.

I am not certain what part of Alabama you will be assigned. Mobile is an international port and has people of many cultures. Huntsville is the center of America's space research. Engineers are everywhere and from everywhere. M.I.C.O.M. is located there. Fort Rucker is the center of America's helicopter school. These places are inhabited by people from all over the world. Alabama has four automobile manufacturing cites here. The old South is NO more.

But what remains is a strong very strong religious culture. Several time Alabama has by wide margins voted against a lottery and all other types of gaming. Every state around Alabama has a lottery. I think that really describes the moral values of Alabama.

You will discover a world of friendly people and economic boom.

Of course there is the climate. Rose waited almost four years to see snow. This last winter was her first. The summers are hot. Alabama has rivers everywhere and many lake. The Gulf coastal region has beautiful beaches.

You will love Alabama if your are seeking a life of solid moral values where your neighbor is part of the family.

The greatest problem in Alabama is the lack of funds for the public school system. Most schools are funded from a property tax and out property tax is very low.

Wrote too much but have no fears about life in the South.

Thank you. We will be headed for Montgomery as my OH will be at the air base there.

I will tell you that you should go ahead and choose which team you will root for. College football is akin to a religion in Alabama. So:

I am trying not to be biased here, so I included even the team I don't care for. :)

One of the things that I have my mom send us from home is U of A stuff. Clothes for the kiddos and us, etc. When we go down for a visit, we always visit BamaFever. I watch as much of it as is broadcast up here in the fall. My hubby didn't understand until he got here. Now he is just as caught up in it. I love it. My son already gets excited and claps & dances to the fight song. I am so proud! ;)

Here is my daughter:

 My 12 yr old has the male version of that, we bought it back for him when we visited and he loves to wear it...his friends always asked him about it....in fact today he was really down hearted because the elastic has gone in the shorts :P My hubby gave him a cap that he had kept some some important game from the '80's or 90's ( I dunno...I listen but i don't always hear ;) ) and he was thrilled with it...it's kinda yellow but he keeps it on his computer desk  Edited by Welshcookie

Thanks but I'm not really into sports lol. Neither is my OH really unless it involves cars.

I have one name for you: Bear Bryant. Drop that name anywhere in connection to the 'Tide and you'll make yourself a ton of friends :-)

I'm not from Alabama, but I imagine it's not far off from Husker Mania and Tom Osborne/Bob Devaney.

I have been living in Alabama now for three years.

Near the GA/AL line. I am an hour from Montgomery. I have been there a few times. It seems like a nice place.

I will tell you the people here are so friendly.

The only place left I think were young kids and teenagers still call you mam or sir.

I think this is really respectful. They also will say Ms Peggy and not just Peggy.

The weather is hot here that is for sure.

You will adjust. I have.......lol

I live in Alabama, I think that it's a great place to live, especially moving from another country. All that negative you may have heard, usually is false. I heard most of the same stuff before moving here, I still came and have lived here for 8 years.

I'm in Dothan. Just a hop skip and jump from GA and FL. The Gulf of Mexico, to me, is the best place on earth!

My husband is a UK national and he was really surprised when he visited for the first time. He really enjoys talking with the Souhterners. Although most people here think he is from Australia! LOL

He is from Birmingham England. I can't wait to take him to Birmingham, AL.

Don't worry about the stereotypes. There is good and bad everywhere.

The schools system is poor, however, the Mobile area and part of Birmingham has the best public schools.

My husband really hates ice tea. He says he'll never get used to it!

You really will be surprised how recieving the people are. Good luck, and ya'll take care!

Hey is there anyone in Alabama here? My OH is being posted there with the USAF and depending when my Visa is approved I'll be following. He can't wait and wants to stay there for quite a few years, but I have my reservations. Just want to know what it's like as I think my head is full of stereotypes.

I have lived in Alabama since birth but have visited many places. You will find that Alabamians are friendly and helpful. We do not date our cousins, but we do say YA'LL ;)

Feel free to contact me at any time!
