Anyone here ever have difficulty to apply Texas DL? please share experience. I just moved here in Texas, and my old deriver license (which was TN DL) expired the same time with my 2 years GC expired. I tried to apply new DL here in San Antonio, but they didn't give me one. I have my passport stamp, and it will expired in one year after my 2 years expired.

Here what they have for proof identity;

The document must contain verifiable data and identifiable photo, specifically:

* US Citizen Identification Card

(I-179 or I-197)

* Resident Alien Card (I-551)

* Temporary Resident Identification Card (I-688)

* Employment Authorization Card

(I-688A, I-688B or I-766)

My passport has stamped I-551 will expire on June 2009, they still didn't take it, because my passport didn't have one of this (my old passport did have I-94, but it was expired after 90 days since I got here which was on June 15 2004):

# Form I-94 with status code F1, F2, M1, or M2, an unexpired Form I-20, and evidence of current enrollment in an educational institution located in Texas or sponsorship in a visiting worker program or,

# Form I-94 with status code J-1 or J-2 and an unexpired Form IAP-66 or Form DS-2019 or,

# Unexpired Form I-94 with a defined expiration date: Form I-94 must have been issued for a period of at least one year and have at least six months validity remaining.

I don't know what to do. I don't want to drive without DL, but they never give me one. If I just wait until get my new GC, that mean I should wait 1 year or maybe longer than that to drive :crying: , hopefully will get soon .

Will appreciated any suggestions.

I had no trouble here in Houston.

But then my license was not expired and I was changing my florida license to a Texas one within the legally required 30 days of becoming resident in texas.

What exactly is the reason they stated for them not giving you one? It may be because your TN license was expired and you moved here too long ago (you waited too long to change it to a TX license, under TX law this had to be done within the first 30 days of you moving to TX in order to be allowed a direct exchange)

To obtain a TX licence you do not even need proof of legal status - part of the reason why my TX licence is valid until 2013, when my conditional greencard expired back in march.

Here are the requirements:

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administratio...vingtotexas.htm

My guess is that because you no longer have a VALID out-of-state licence (it's expired) and because you waited too long before changing to a texas licence - that you will need to re-take the driving test here in texas in order to get your licence.

Jamie

If it's the "ID" requirements that you're having trouble with, then there are ways around it.

If you get 2 passport photos, and make an infopass appointment, bringing the photos with you, and tell them that you lost your passport but need proof of your Permanent Resident Status (e.g. for work) then they will issue you a type of I-94 with your photo and a stamp on showing you are a permanent resident.

Take this then along with your passport and that will be enough to pass the 'identification requirements'

Thanks Jamie.

My TN DL wasn't expired yet that time, but it was like a week before expired. I went to 3 DL offices, and they have the some requirement. Have one more question here, how do they know if I just moved here (within 30 days) or I moved more than 30 days, do they ask when did we move?

Then I suspect it was the ID requirements... correct?

You still didn't exactly clarify what they said.

If it is then use my above suggestion to get an I-94 that you can use along with your passport & stamp.
