Hi VJ!! We are about 2 months into our wait for the NOA2 and thinking ahead to the interview. My fiance (Salvadoran) has not been vaccinated for anything (he sort of slipped through the cracks during childhood immunizations, I guess) and I know he will have to have many vaccinations at some point. Are any vaccinations required in order to obtain the K1 visa, or are they only required at the AOS phase in the States?

Also, what about vaccines that require three shots over a period of time? Are you required to FINISH them before getting the K1 or filing for AOS, or only the first one of the series?

Finally, if we are not required to have the immunizations before arriving to the States, does anyone have any experience with having the initial vaccinations in your home country and then the second and third shots (of the series) in the States? Is it possible if you provide your records from your home country? Or do you need to do the whole series in the States?

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light!!

For his own health the best thing is to have them done regardless of the visa process, plus they're also a lot less expensive in Latin America than here in the US.

The shots needed for his visa are TD, MMR and varicella unless he's already had varicella. The doctor doing the medical exam will fill out a vaccine card and you need to send a copy of this along with the AOS packet.

Thanks for your responses everyone. But does anyone know the answer to the question about starting the series of vaccines (the ones where you need three seperate shots a few months apart) in a foreign country and then finishing them in the States. Or if they have to be finished (ie all shots in the series administered) for AOS, or only started?

Thanks!!

Hi there I just submitted my AOS application based from K-1 fiancee visa. I didnt choose to get vaccinated in the philippines. So I have all the vaccines in here. Got the MMR and tetanus shot. THen again the civil surgeon said that theres new regulations from USCIS stating that women ages 9-26 years old are required to have HPV VACCINE (GARDISIL), since i just turn 26 this june so I was still included and took the shot for $170 aside fromthat they still did a VARICELLA TITER eventhough I already told them and based from my vaccination worksheet from the philippines that i have VH (VARICELLA HISTORY), still they ask me to do the varicella titer to show that I'm still immune with varicella. ANyways its better to talk to your CIVIL SURGEON since he/she will be the one signing the vaccination supplement form in your I-693. Bless us all

Hey, thanks for the info. I know the Guardasil vaccine is 3 shots, right? So, were you able to submit your AOS petition with only the first shot? Thanks!!

Thank you so much for that info!!! I was worried we had to have all 3 shots in the series completed before we could adjust, but it sounds like that's not the case.

That's what I thought it will be too, that I have to finish all the 3 shots but good things I dont have to. And I already submitted the AOS, they received it and cash the check. We're waiting now for the NOA's. Good luck to us all.

Hi Skyler,

I had my physical at Instituto de Ojos, this is one of the places authorized by the American Embassy for the medical, X-ray, lab work and vaccines.

You can call any of the medical centers referred by the consular section. They can give you info regarding the immunizations that your fiancé needs, as well as the cost, and the number of visits necessary to complete the vaccines. The advantage to do it with them is that they are authorized, have experience and are up-to-date with the immunization regime.

I estimate that your fiancé has sufficient time to complete the immunization schedule here in El Salvador. It may cost less too.

You can find the list of medical centers and doctors authorized in the official website for the Consular Services at the U.S. Embassy in El Salvador:

Thank you Sinpisto, you are REALLY helping me out. So, we can start the vaccinations now, right? As long as we go to an approved doctor, we don't have to wait for packet 3? I guess that makes sense, they just want you to have all of them. Thank you!!!
