I'm guilty of typing in slang, lol... a few Brit words and American....summat, nowt, peeps, all that jazz, etc. I type how I talk. Tho I've been making a conscious effort the past 6 mos to phase out the Britslang. It's hard because I don't even realize I'm doing it.

I didn't wanna get like Madonna who got off the plane and was all 'pip pip cheerio' tho after being there a while, I adopted certain words into my vocabulary. Only a few tho imo. I have this friend who still teases me that I once said to him 'Giz a quid' which I SWEAR I totally did not, but even to this day...he's insistent that I did.

D and I used to have this lil cutesy bicker...I would say 'THERE'S NO R IN A$$' lol.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I do it because we used to always keep in touch by email/IM so I started picking it up ... but I try to avoid it, I write for a living. More of a problem is using British *words* by mistake, like "the wing mirror of my car is broken" or "I need to hoover the living room." Or sometimes I confuse people by using British grammar, like "I've not seen 'The Dark Knight' yet."

It's one of my pet peeves when Americans spell things the British way but don't take it all the way to using British grammar and vocabulary. Or worse, when they spell some things the British way and not others. Then again, I also get paid to pay attention to those things.

I think I'll start writing as if English isn't my first language and I'm not so good at it and make people wonder, "is she from somewhere else too?" That could be fun. I've thought that about some people.

Mine calls the letter "Z", "zed", rather than "zee". A mistake I will have to correct when she gets here.

What a weird thing to notice. I don't do it, but I would never have noticed others doing it either

"We are the real countries,

Not the boundaries drawn on maps,

With the names of powerful men.

That's all I've wanted -

To walk in such a place with you,

On an earth without maps."

I also find some people use British slang or expressions just because they like them. I have no problem with this. I've managed to get a few American acquaintances to talk about things going 'pear-shaped'. Alex said he was 'shattered' the other day. :D

Ha ha!

I've so far converted my work colleagues into saying they're knackered when they're tired...and various other sayings. They also find it hilarious when I say "bloke" for some reason.

Our latest vacuum is a hoover, so at least I can genuinely say I'm running the hoover round. It keeps hubby happy and I was getting really p!ssed off everytime he said "it's not a hoover, it's a Dyson".

Dyson, my #######. He was lucky he didn't get part of it shoved where the sun don't shine.

Big Sigh! - My husband still spells the words with 'or' instead of 'our'. I didn't realize that the double underline showing up when I doubled the last consonant preceded by a vowel before adding the 'ed' or 'ing' ending was due to the American spelling of those words - I just figured my computer didn't know how to spell! It keeps wanting to 'correct' me when I spell them correctly, so I will have to be more insistent with it! I will keep working on my husband as well, and the rest of us will keep working on the other Americans. Maybe one day they will learn how to spell correctly. (wicked grin)

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
