Quick question

Here is our experience...

My fiance went to his GP before the medical to request his vaccination records, to see which ones he needed to get. Of course, they have no record on file for him. He was told they were probably sitting in a box in a warehouse back in Northern Ireland. Apparently in the UK, the computerized records don't go back to the 1970's. He was told that he could request they be retrieved, but that would take a minimum of 8-12 weeks, if they found them at all.

The GP refused to create a subsitute vaccination record, which should have been easy to do at least in part, based on my fiance's age and school attendance. The GP would only agree to give my fiance EVERY vaccine over again!

So he went to the medical without a vaccination record. The doctor there HAPPILY created one for him. The only vaccines my fiance needed to get were MMR and DTP boosters. He chose to pay up and get them done at the medical. Why? The doctor explained that he could go home to his GP, but then the medical exam would not be useable later for AOS, and he'd have to go get another one done in the US. So in the end it saved us time, and probably a little money.

If you have had chickenpox as a child then you won't need the varicella vaccine. The medical peeps just ticked it off when I told them I'd had it.

did they not need to see proff or a note in your records?

Not for me or my son. Just told them we'd had it and that was that. :)

All of this Vaccination stuff is the most confusing part for me!, I read over the thread lots of great advice, so thanks guys!.

I was going to call my GP tomorrow and ask about getting my immunisation lists, would I be better getting an appointment with him ? Or should I request an appointment with my GP nurse? I have no idea what I have already had, and what I need!

I would like to delay the HPV unitil I get to the USA, purely because I would feel alot more settled.

The practise nurse is the one to see (although GP is okay too). The practice nurse tends to be the one who does the vaccinations so she was the one to see, in my case.

Good luck!

Thanks Magenta, I called up the surgery again today, since the nurse still hasn't called me back, and the woman at reception said "he still has your number, he will call this week because you dont need any vaccinations for the USA" .

I have told her every single time that I'm not going over for a holiday I am moving there!. She is driving me insane lol.
