hey all!

silly question, but what exactly besides the checklist do I bring to the interview?

do I need my fiance's birth certificate?

anything else?

thx

Elunia28 :luv:

I had my interview last week, and they asked for OF-167 signed by my fiance. I thought this form was optional and needed only if co-sponsor is used, which we didn't. Anyway, luckily my fiance was with me and he signed OF-167 right there. They didn't ask for his birth certificate, just mine. If you were born in Canada, you need a long form certificate. They had all the documents we send with I-129F, so I guess they already have USC birth certificate. They only take USD cash for the visa, no money orders or cr. cards. Hope this helps.

OF-167??

Is this for Vancouver only? Like the OP, I'm going through Montréal and I've never seen this OF-167 mentioned anywhere in our packet 3...

(edit: come to think of it, what on earth is OF-167? I tried doing a search for it and couldn't find the form)

Yes, OF-167 was listed under enclosures in Packet 3 received from Vancouver Consulate. And I thought that I-134 was sufficient, but apparently they wanted OF-167. Perhaps that's only for Vancouver.

EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT: Evidence which will show that you and your children, if any, are not likely to become public charges in the United States. The enclosed information sheet, Optional Form 167, lists evidence which may be presented to meet this requirement of law. If an affidavit of support is to be submitted, Form 1-134 should be used.

Yes, keep in mind Vancouver and Montreal have different requirements!!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

$100 USD, but I'm bringing a little extra, just in case.

Thanks for the explanation! Hopefully we don't have to fill this out, because our Packet 3 does not mention this form at all, and it's not included in our package.

Sorry, I should add that I'm not sure if the fee for K1 and k3 are the same.

The MRV fee is $100 and that's for any non-immigrant visa, including the K-1 and K-3...

always remember the things you cannot take to your interview as well! Security is a ###### at the Montreal consulate, unless its changed since I went.

No food or drinks (even if you're pregnant or diabetic)

No backpacks or overly large bags (take your stuff in a plastic grocery bag, or small-ish purse)

No large photo albums (just put photos into an envelope if you take some)

No electronics (ie: cell phones, CD players, MP3s, PDAs etc)

Arrive just before they open the doors and start allowing people in. Show the guard your interview letter and you can by-pass the line up. That way you won't end up sitting there the entire day. If you arrive even 10 minutes after they open the flood gates, you could be there til well after lunch.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

Some questions...

since I'll be travelling on my own, I'll need to bring my cell phone with me (security/safety reasons). I recall reading somewhere a while back that there's a coffee shop across the street where I can leave my stuff with them (e.g. cell phone, personal belongings) for a small fee... Does this place still exist? If so, where is it and what's the fee?

I would assume that the coffee shop is still there, and is still holdng on to stuff for consulate visitors. I dunno for sure tho, it was nearly 2 years ago now that I was there. If you're staying at a hotel in Montreal tho, they for sure will hold onto your stuff, even if you've checked out. Most hotels have a room off to the side of the lobby for storing luggage.

When I went, I put my stuff in storage at the train station, but they only do that for people who have a valid train ticket.

I think they open the doors at 8am and ppl usually start lining up around 7 or 7:30. I arrived just before 8 and they let me in. My appointment was fairly early as well, can't remember what time tho. Others who went thru Montreal who arrived just shortly after 8am ended up waiting for their interview til after lunch time, even tho their interview time was supposed to be around 10 or so. The time on your letter is basically a guideline for when to show up. Once you're there, they take you first come, first served, as far as I could tell.
