I can also recommend www.vopistunt.com. It is an apllication like skype but uses VOIP technology. Calls to landlines anywhere in the world are free, well to all the major countries in the world.

I can relate to the user, i have only been here over 2 months now and still adjusting. I think once i have a job i will be fine.

Am entirely in agreement with both Chas and Jaylen on this, and I am also speaking from experience having spent many years away from the UK and also the fact that my daughter has been in the states now for nearly 20 years and in that time has only been back to the Uk -once. Mind you we have been to the states many times and like both Chas and Jaylen, when we move over we know there are going to be many things in the UK that we will miss

You do not live in a country for 60 years and think you are not going to miss things , ;) but there are also many things that I will definitely not miss and that is what I will keep in my mind

Sykpe is fantastic and with a webcam (use them both now) I keep an eye on my youngest grandson who I will be leaving but I will still be able to watch him grow through those two things and talk forever 'cause it is free

It is hard but you have to stay positive and try not to reminisce about what you are missing but what the future will hold for you

Goodluck to all

I know I will miss my family like crazy, just thinking about that now makes me well up esp as I know my folks are getting on now....I worry bout that alot, but Chris has promised we will have an emergency fund always at hand for any unexpected trips I may have to take.

I am sure I will miss pretty much the same as everyone else. I am still excited to be going and I don't leave until 2008

Tell me about it!!! I have been the US for 10 years but I still feel like a foreigner! I only came back the day before yesterday from home where I was on vacation for a month, and I feel very depressed...... Each time it takes me some time to adjust again. I don't know why.

Sometimes I think I know everything, and I regain consciousness. Seen it all, done it all, forgot most of it....

So much plenitude, yet so much emptiness

From time to time I also think that it's not fair that my husband has all his family here and I have noone but him. Today is one of these days :crying:

I try to persuade him come to live to Russia, but he doesn't seem to like this idea :(

What I find the worst here is lack of public transportation. I finally got the driving license, but I am still afraid to drive. I expect it will take me YEARS to learn drive on freeways!!!

Sorry, guys, but I am currently sitting here at the computer and cannot even go anywhere... May I cry here for a while? (F)

I think its natural for everyone to miss their family and friends. I know i do. I have a very close relationship with my brilliant parents and sisters and as soon as I get this GC through (paws crossed), I plan to go back to N.Ireland to see them before I get a job here.

To help me settle here though, before I came over I committed to knowing that I would be living in America and that it would only make it worse if i moped about missing home. I have started volunteering at the local animal shelter and have made great friends through there as well as being in my element and having fun. i highly recommend anyone who wants to pass time to volunteer for a charity or an organisation. :D

Attitude is everything

Kat :luv:

I think this sums it all. As everyone I miss home, and I think I have started to miss it even more now that I am working and getting adjusted to everything. And like Ana said before, even though I dont miss like anyone in specific, I miss being there for certain occassions (birthdays for example, since my family is big on b'days). I also miss knowing my way around things, I hate feeling insecure about doing something because I may mess something up. I miss not knowing where everything is. I hate not knowing the name of all the vegetable or meat cuts in the supermarket. I hate the fact that is almost june, and I still have not felt any warm weather.

But when I feel all down and crushed, my husband does something that reminds me why I left my country, and I think I made the right choice. And when we are getting things for our new home, I feel I made the rigth thing.

Its kinda of a yo-yo thing, some days Im good, some others not so good. But overall, I know I am with the right man, so that makes it better. I am also looking forward to going back, and seeing everyone, and I might get to the point where I'll miss Pitts... and the shitty weather... :)
