Him - Chicago, Her - Tokyo.

We met online around Nov. 2006, started emailing and then talking on the phone twice a day.

Met in Paris (both on business) in Jan. 2007

FELL IN LOVE :-)

Married Oct. 2007 in Tokyo

Received BAD information from good people.

Went to US Embassy in Tokyo, had all papers in hand, ready to get a visa in 1 week.

Bzzzzt wrong answer. Unless the USC lives in Japan for 6 months, you can't apply there.

Appears to be this way with all consulates (6 months/181 days/half the year = they have jurisdiction over you)

The legal truth is, the consulates can do it if they want to...but they choose not to.

Spent some time coming up with ideas (kind of wasted time)

Met with attorney in June (should have done this sooner)

Attorney says, simple case, just file and wait...papers look good...don't really need attorney.

Filed I-130 in June...sent to Vermont

Bzzzt wrong answer. Package sent back with check already endorsed.

Got the bank to issue another check, sent package to Chicago lock-box on July 8th.

Received NOA1 on July 14th.

Sent I-129f to CSC on July 19th.

Noticing that things are getting faster.

Heard a rumor that time has gone from 9 months to 6 months and is approaching 4 months for approvals.

Last together on July 6 (US visit)

Glad to be here with so many great and patient people.
