Eli who did you fly with? my trips to the USA have been between Icelandair & British Airways, they dont seem to be to kind on the baggage allowance!

I flew Virgin to JFK from london but it was Aer Lingus that charged me 170GBP for extra allowance from Belfast to london.

And then Continental charged $100 for extra from newark. Oh well!!!

I know that feeling i wont get caught out by that again though. I nearly booked to fly out of shannon so we can do immigration in ireland and celebrate on the plane until i realised how screwed i would be on the Ryanair/Aerarran/whatever flight.

Just to give everyone faith in humanity when DW flew in to the uk after she was refused a visa for Ireland the last leg of the Journey was a ryanair flight and bless her she was tired and upset and just wanted to get home to me, but she gets to the ryanair desk with her bags, one large one carry on Dude weighs it and looks at DW and says you know this is overweight right? DW is nearly in tears as we have no money having just done a emergency exit from Ireland. Dude says im not going to tell you how much it is im just putting it on now go quick.

So heres to the ryanair guy :)

A far cry from the £100+ I had to pay for an extra case!! I never realised you were only allowed one at 15kg

Refused a visa into Ireland? Why??? In my experience I don't even get stamped half the time going through there (I've probably visited/been through a good dozen times). The longest time I spent in passport control was 5 minutes b/c the agent saw I was from Chicago and asked me if I knew his cousins and if I had ever been to the GAA field in Tinley Park.

Anyways...I <3 the Irish. In general the nicest group of people I've ever come across...it doesn't surprise me the ticket agent did that.

Sometimes Aer Lingus has UK to IE flights that are quite comparable to Ryanair. I think you have to get a bit lucky and plan far in advance, but you won't get dinged as heavily having overweight baggage going via Aer Lingus than Ryan Air.

.

i was living for four years in Ireland and met DW after two years she was travelling. We applied for a Eu family permit and because we as a married couple have not lived in another EU member state prior to applying for Ireland we were refused. Crazy yes illegal yes but there you go.the world is a small place and Ireland is smaller the Irish doctor at the knightsbridge doctors and i know some of the same people. Oh DW said the ticket agent was french.

Also on another note there is currently no passport contrl between Ireland and england hence no stamp. Soon to change though
