So, I applied for my AP in late April. They received it on May 4 and notified me on May 9. However, I still did not heard from them about my AP. They touched it on June 12. Since I have travel tickets for Croatia for Aug 2 and my passport expires, I tried to go to a local New Orleans office to expedite it. It did not work. The person at the desk told me they cannot do it unless I have a medical emergency (passport and bought tickets do not count). I was persistent, so he gave me a regular USCIS number, but said to call them and told them to ask for service request at NBC. I did as he said, got somebody on the phone at USCIS, and they let me to file for Expedited AP. The lady was very nice, took all my information and then their computers crushed. She apologized several times and told me to cal later. After 2 h, I called back, got another person, gave all my information, and before she could finish the processing, computers were slow. :crying: They told me to call tomorrow morning to file again. Does anybody has an experience on applying for Expedited AP over the phone, and if yes, how long did it take you to get it into the hand? Was anybody denied after they filed? I also wanted to share this story with you.

Thanks for sharing Sweet26, I cannot help you with that, but I am pretty intersted in your point because I might be in the same situation in a couple months...

I heard infopass usually works... But I don't really know how it works. I visited the website, but in case you need an expedite AP for medical examination for example, what do you fill on the infopass page??

On the first page, it is pretty easy, they ask for a zipcode...

On the second one, they want to know if either:

-You need Service on a case that has already been filed

- You are a new Permanent Resident and have not yet received your Permanent Resident Card

- You want to file an application in person

- You need information or other services

- You need a form.

Which one would you check for expedite AP??

Then, what do you do??

Can anyone help here???

Faustine,

I checked a form for InfoPass, but InfoPass did not work in my case. If you have medical emergency, they would expedite it for you. The USCIS phone line seems to work much better.

There is advanced parole for emergencies which you can get at the INFOPASS centre nearest you, but not because you're going away on vacation, or returning home for a visit. Once you get your AP, you can go back to your country for a visit or vacation even if it's not an emergency, but just because you bought your ticket and haven't gotten your AP since you applied, they don't constitute that as an emergency. AP usually takes about 3 months. You cut it WAY too close. Your tickets are for the 2nd of August? Even if they approved you in the 3 month period, it takes a week or two to even get them in the mail. You're not out all your money, however it's going to cost you to change the departure date on your ticket. Maybe $100.00 or so? Leave it as long as you can in case your AP does come in before you leave. You also mentioned something about your passport expiring? You shouldn't be travelling at all with a passport that's within 6 months of expiration. Actually there are some countries that you can't even get into if your passport is not over the 6 month limit.

Thanks!

I got USCIS over the phone to expedite my AP. I received an email that they could NOT do it because of missing initial evidence on June 11. They do not say what is missing and we did not receive RFE for anything in last month. I tried to call them again, but after trying several times, they told me their computers are down. They have been down since Monday! I need to call them back NEXT WEEK so they will send us RFE again! I do not have clue where is the first letter they sent. Of course, my travel plans for August are screwed up.

Since I am on F-1 visa in my current passport here and with my maiden name in it, is it possible that I travel with that passport (without getting a new one on husbands' name - green card name) without changing any documents in Croatia? I would enter as a student, what I am, with a valid F-1 visa.

I have not seen my family for 2 years and although I can cancel my $1750 ticket, I still want to see them. Has anybody tried to ravel with F-1 and old (maiden name) passport while their case is pending?

I would really appreciate your suggestions.
