It's hard to believe there are so many communities in the US which are deprived of a 24 hour spot where you can get your coffee, donut, sandwich, etc fix. Unless you're lucky enough to live in one of the areas of the states where there is a Tim Hortons, instead of driving x amount of hours to get to one, why not build one in your town? Surely people will go. I go to Krispy Kreme and whats this? They're closed? It's only 9 PM! If it was Tim's in Canada (and it'd have to be a crappy one that actually closed) all you'd have to do is stand up tall and look around you'd likely spot 3 or 4 more Tim Horton's that were open. Krispy Kreme, that's the only one (in a county with 1.2 million people) and the next closest one is 50km away! Dunkin Donuts, you call them things donuts? More like hockey pucks if you ask me! We need more Tim Horton's in the states. Now only to come up with a half million dollars to open one up... If I win the lottery, I'm going to put one right next to university downtown. It'd be a good investment, I think!

I hear ya! You'd think that in a touristy area like ours there would be a HUGE draw for a decent coffee house...heck ANY coffee house (just not Charbucks) would do right now! We live in an area that would benefit greatly from a coffee house. And yes I will freely admit to being a Timmie's junkie...and I don't want a cure. :D I wish I had the business sense and the finances to open a Tim's down here in the South. KK is...well...their coffee stinks. Their donuts are yummy though. But then, if I had a KK and a Tim's to choose from I'd have to go to Tim's hands down. There's just no comparison.

Yeah, if I had a head for business and the financing...yeah....

Of course if one had money eh? On the other hand, while I'd love a Tim Horton's down here..it's really not a part of the culture, and I don't know how well at all it would do here. There is like one or two Kriskpy Kreme's here, but frankly, there is no one ever there! I'm surprised they're still open here. Starbucks is closing 16 locations here in the next two months. They said they expanded too fast. I agree. If I go to Starbucks, which is not that often, the only people that are in there seem to be younger people, with those fancy coffee's. Money here is tight right now in St. Louis, and I don't think people have the money to spend on those type of coffees anymore. I don't think many people are that discriminatory on their coffee either. As soon as Jack-In-The-Box and other fast food restaurants started offering iced coffee beverages, people stopped going to Starbucks.

I grew up being a coffee drinker, all day, all evening. How many people do you know down here that drink coffee when it's 100 degrees out and in the evening? It's dead around here anywhere in the evenings. Socializing here is not going out for a coffee....

Gene and I have talked about this for ages. Not just about a Tim's, but about a small business coffee/books/deli/bakery type of place, but quite frankly, anything we've looked into, that involves "coffee" is probably not going to break even here. Now, I'm talking about St. Louis, so I'm not trying to speak for all the US, but I'd bet the further south you'd go, the less coffee drinkers (I'm talking dedicated coffee drinkers there are. And again, I'd like to point out, it's not just the coffee...it's the culture. It's just not apart of the mid, or southern US culture.

Hmmm wonder how it would do down south here....I've often thought about Timmies...

They are closing a whole bunch of Starbucks during this economy down fall......only one that is doing well in terms of coffee franchises is Dunkin Donuts....

I agree....for the most part, coffee seems to be the first thing to go here.

I'm not a coffee drinker at all. Tell me they offer some good tea and I might think about it.

Socializing here is going to a baseball game, or sitting around the tv and/or radio watching a baseball game with a beer in your hand. It always cracks me up when someone says why are there so many bars in St. Louis? Um.....cause baseball means beer drinking!!!!!!!

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Of course. Never a shortage of baseball and beer here! Actually the beer is usually cheaper than the coffee.
