The American people act through their representatives in Congress. We are, after all, a representative democracy.

If only that simplistic take on politics in America could truely explain a lot of stupidness that goes on in America. We all know the game is rigged. To say what goes on is what the American people want is absurd.

The truth is that if many of these issues were put to a national referendum the real truth would come out. But, then again, some people cant or won't accept the truth.

The vast majority Americans do not want open borders, do not support illegal aliens, and do not support amnesty for illegal aliens.

Yet you do not acknowledge that all of the top 20 OECD nations have 100 times stricter immigration policies and pretty much immediately deport illegal immigrants. Why do you think that is? Because they are against humanity? WRONG! Because they need to protect and look out for their country first, before they can assist others. Pretty much the same way that the Mexican government allows illegal immigrants to cross the border and passes the burden onto the American tax payer.

Considering the current state of the economy, ILLEGALS - whether Mexican or otherwise - are the enemy. Jobs are disappearing quickly here in Indiana (which is mainly a NON-college-educated workforce) and we'd like to keep the few that we have for the LEGAL residents of the state. With taxes in my county already in the top 10 for the state, I don't need any more taken from my paycheck to supply services for illegals. (Yes, we have federal tax, state tax, county tax, AND city tax deductions here in Putnam County)

Start babbling about how I'm racist or a "hater" - I don't give a sh!t. But when my paychecks get smaller and smaller, I take aim at every single unnecessary drain on my income.

Looking out for Americans and the hundreds of thousand of blue collar Americans who have lost their jobs, lost their homes, lost their savings is not racist. The United States has more than enough people living in poverty and needs to look after them first. Period! That is the reality of every other first world nation. PS I see she cannot learn English but picked up on the US legal system quick smart. Headed straight to the lawyers office after the incident.

In other words you have a total inability to separate the woman's illegal status from her alleged treatment at the hands of law enforcement. I don't think anyone has indicated that they agree with her being here illegally, only that shackling a pregnant woman to a bed by her ankle as she's going into labour seems somewhat cruel.

Quite simply - it comes down to this statement in the OP article.

That is the consequences of committing a crime. Why should this illegal immigrant be treated otherwise. Or is she somehow above Americans. At least in Australia both her and her anchor babies asses would be thrown out thanks to a change in law which now states that one of the parents must be a citizen; for a child to be eligible of becoming a citizen.

None of which has anything to do with this woman. In effect you are saying that because people have been killed by illegal aliens that this justifies this woman's ill treatment at the hands of the police. Sorry mate - as a rational argument that just doesn't fly.

Once again: The punishment for being in the country illegally is not being shackled to a hospital bed when you're going into labour - depending on your point of view that's either negligence at best or something approaching to torture at worst.

However, if you convert illegal mexicans into 'enemies' and you forget about the Geneva convention, this kind of treatment is entirely appropriate, especially if you can somehow imply that the dire economic situation of legal citizens is entirely the fault of liberal enablers.
