Is it safe to say that some people in the thread feel the Mother in question was using her child's American birthright to her advantage?

That she was playing the system?

Would that be anything at all like lying about one's financial condition on say - oh a student loan application - in order to play the system?

Unless of course, we really are 'strapped'. But then wouldn't that make us 'poor and struggling'?

If we could only concentrate the masses into camps...put them into train cars.

Thankfully, the best practices document for doing that efficiently to a very large number of people is still in existence... somewhere in Germany.

We could in the meantime, sew a little Mexican flag onto their clothing.

auschw_camp.jpg

Are you for real Steven? Isn't that a bit over the top? It is way off the mark buddy. About like the analogy of the border wall being compared to the Berlin Wall.

A little sarcasm that's no less absurd than how this poor woman was treated. There's no getting around the fact that being here illegally is not a criminal offense. Efforts to round them up is as absurd as my comment.

It is within the law to arrest and detain illegal aliens for eventual deportation. The USA has only done it millions of times in the past and will do it millions of times in the future. Without enforcement of the laws there is anarchy. Illegal aliens should not be allowed to dictate US immigration policy. Giving illegal aliens permanent residency undermines US immigration laws and is, in effect, an open border policy.

While guys like you seem to believe that is just groovy. It ain't. This isn't the 19th or even the early 20th century anymore. America is a modern industrialized welfare state and allowing open immigration from the third world is suicide. But guys like you hate America anyway, so that sort of scenario makes you happy. As for me...I'm not suicidal. ;)

Who should dictate immigration policy in this country, peejay?

The American people should decide their own national destiny. The laws pertaining illegal immigration are already on the books. Illegal aliens are deportable and subject to a ban on reentry according to the amount of time they were illegally present.

As usual though, stupid stories like this one turn into a bleeding heart liberal justification for open borders and illegal alien cheerleading.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

The American people act through their representatives in Congress. We are, after all, a representative democracy.

If only that simplistic take on politics in America could truely explain a lot of stupidness that goes on in America. We all know the game is rigged. To say what goes on is what the American people want is absurd.

The truth is that if many of these issues were put to a national referendum the real truth would come out. But, then again, some people cant or won't accept the truth.

The vast majority Americans do not want open borders, do not support illegal aliens, and do not support amnesty for illegal aliens.

Stop the bickering AND the personal insults, please.

A spade is a spade.

And a mod is a mod.

Get back on topic everyone, please.

People's opinions usually come from the place in life where they picture themselves.

You know - judgment and all that jazz. So easy to be critical of the rest of the world when the world is your oyster, don't you think.

Therefore I do believe I was on topic.

Some comments were addressed in a very personal way from more than one party in this thread.

By all means, people, make your POV in this case, but don't make the comments personal.

That's all. :)

Ah very good. I see.

I think that maybe I don't mind my poor, struggling, bitter life as long as it allows me to still use my intellect and exercise some sense of dignity towards my fellow man.

I also think that I don't mind being told I'm poor, struggling and bitter. I'm a big girl and can take care of myself in threads.

But thanks anyway. I'm sure the other parties feel better.

Becca, my post was aimed at the two parties involved in this squabble, not solely you.

It was a simple request - make your point but don't do it whilst having a dig or making a snide remark towards another.

Any continuation of this will result in a lock.

ughhhhhhh...seriously if you are prepared to break the law then you must be prepared to face the consequences of breaking the law. I bet she's setting up her case right now to try to get permanent residence because she was mistreated.

Either that or she'll sue the city for a pretty penny and not have to work for the rest of her life.

I don't think there's any country that rules by referendum - at least not on anything other than strictly constitutional issues.
