California is amidst a serious water shortage. People are being urged to cut back on their water use, and rates are increasing nearly 20% in some state regions.The biggest use of freshwater in the state is agriculture. The biggest use of residential water, meanwhile, is for watering lawns. Sacramento, where much of the water for the state flows from, actually is one of the biggest per capita water users in the world. Here's the lede to this post: an environmentally correct couple in Sacramento was looking to do their part to help stave the water crisis, and stopped watering their front lawn, letting it grow and go brown. A neighbor complained, and the city stepped it an issued them a public nuisance code violation ordering them to fix (read water) the lawn or face a $746 fine. Actually, most places that have HOA's will fine someone for not watering their yard. Some of them even dictate what kinds of plants you can grow...and it's not just in Cali.

If someone makes a facile comment about living in CA and how awful it must be, ha ha ha, I think it's perfectly apt to make a facile comment back at him - facile is as facile does.
