Hi everyone,

I picked my passport from VFS today.It was really nice to have my passport in my hand just before the 3 days i will fly to US.

But my visa is only valid till 17jan2008. Will my visa be extended at the POE in US and will i get the US passport after one year? Pls answer my question and help me out.

Immigrant visa is for 6 months... POE is your green card start date. You'll get Conditional green card (plastic card) for 2 years within couple of weeks after arrival. Then remove the condition and extend for 10 years... Good luck at POE and happy life together !!!

BUT... if you're coming in with a K1 visa, the visa is only good for 90 days. I just wanted to make sure this is clear since your timeline is not filled out and there may be people with K1 visas reading this thread.

I have to take responsibility for the question because I don't know what I was thinking and I may have confused my sweety :)

But, you guys are right, it's a 6 month 'visa' until the PLASTIC GC comes by - which will be valid for 2 years ... :)

5/24/10 : I-751 Packet sent to VSC

5/26/10 : Delivered to SAINT ALBANS VT 05479 @ 11:46am

5/27/10 : NOA1 Date (based on scanned check image)

5/28/10 : Funds withdrawn from bank account

6/04/10 : NOA1 (I-797) received, confirming above NOA1 receipt date.

7/31/10 : Biometrics letter received - Appointment date of 8/11/10!

8/11/10 : Biometrics done!

8/29/10 : GC received (sometime last week lol)! (WOW!)
