I know the feeling... In Jan 2006 when I was out of work for about a month from a blood clot and then surgery... my phone bill was a straight up $1000. I was upset and mad ! I didnt know it was that expensive to call Egypt... so basically after that I made sure I did something about those phone bills.... phone cards or internet or globaltelelinks!

I had a huge shock the first time I called Nepal - $230 FOR A 30 MINUTE CALL!!!!! Like Tamara I had no idea it was so expensive so since then I have used phone cards or Pingo... We don't talk on the phone that much anyway since the connection is always so bad.

Are you guys not able to use Skype to talk over the internet? Thank GOD for Skype. I've had some phone bills with to many zeros behind them before.

My husband is FINALLY getting net access at his place this month - until now he has had to go to cybercafes. We are hoping that we can use Skype. I want to hear his voice...

Skype only works if they have internet access. That is not always the feasible. Wish it had been in our case.

My phone bills from feb and march of this year were 2000 together...trying to get stuff clarified and finished for the interview..not always having access to pcs with us at work or out...I switched to verizon last month and the rate dropped from 1.99 a min with tmobile to .69 with verizon so thats some relief and we try to only call from skype now...but sometimes you gotta hear that voice!!!!

My husband doesn't have internet access in his home...as most don't in Jordan. He has always and still does use internet cafe's.

It took me a while, but I finally found a phone card that is so perfect. Jordan is a hard country...they are not usually on the lists of countries on most calling cards...not sure why. And when they are, its bad quality. Now I am using www.Pingo.com They offer local numbers, clear calls...all the other phone cards I tried sounded like we were in a tunnel, sometimes I couldn't make the connection or if we were talking (usually in a tunnel), I would be dropped!! It was very frustrating. I have not had any of those problems at all with Pingo. Also, they do not have any high maintenance fees...to give you an example, for 25.00 I got almost 9 hours of talk time. Clear, uninterrupted talk time where we can actually hear each other very well.

If you want a referral to qualify for free minutes when you sign up send me a note in my mail box and I will send you a referral.

Hope this helps.

I'm gladly passing on my favorite secret to you all...http://www.uniontelecard.com/...they are phenomenal. I purchase the mega clean and stable card. It only costs us 2 cents a minute for Argentina.

For some of the MENA Countries, here is the rundown:

Morocco - 17.2 cents a minute

Jordan - 4.3 cents a minute

Egypt - 14.3 cents a minute

Syria - 20 cents a minute

Lebanon - 8.6 cents a minute

Israel - 2.0 cents a minute

Palestine - 20 cents a minute

Iran - 10 cents a minute

Algeria - 10 cents a minute

Saudi Arabia - 12.5 cents a minute

I hope this helps you all...this is a Godsend for us. This is what kept my husband and I going every day. He still calls his parents everyday - no problems.

Good luck, y'all!

I got in major financial troubles for calling Morocco to talk to Tarik. So I cancelled my ability to call internationally from my house and my cell phone. I still text him all the time though.

Recently he has discovered a way to get free 15 minute phone cards online (I think they're free). I will ask him and see if I can hook ya'll up :)

Tmobile is very angry with me. In fact, we broke up. :crying:

Not to worry, VirginMobile adores me. For $15 I bougth a phone and for .10 a minute I can dial direct to Ibrahim's cell phone. We can say alot for .50 and no committments. Wish we had this a few months ago when he racked up a $600 bill calling Jordan  LOL I think they all do it once or twice.

I'm gonna look into the sites you listed above. It's gonna be a long road til he comes home.

T-Mobile is crazy. It use to cose me $2.40 a min if i had to call Lebanon....

if your with a MetroPCS call area go with them - their call rate is as cheap as a calling card.

I can call lebanon for .23 to a cell and .12 to a land line..
