Advice for Chinese status -- need help.

I have a Chinese friend who arrived to Canada with a Visa, but moved to the US with his parents when he was 14 years old. He has now been here for 10 years.

His passport was never stamped, and therefore the US wasn't aware of his arrival here--although he did manage to get into school and graduate, obtain a driver's license, and has built up substantial credit during his presence in the States.

My question is what can be done with his situation? He was basically left here to fend for himself, and I heard there were some programs for people who were brought in underage "in the works" but I never heard whether they were implemented or not.

I want to help him out, but I am not knowledgeable enough to do so at this point--so I now lean upon my VJ friends for understanding.

He wants to go to college and start business, but obviously he cannot until these things are dealt with.

What can we do? Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

This issue is not related to family immigration from China. Perhaps there's a better forum for this.

Pushbrk, come now, I think you're in the wrong section.

Rules for this forum are thus: "Regional Discussion

This Forum is dedicated to discussion on the major regions around the world. Topics of discussion may include travel, moving, what to eat and any other experience you may wish to share or inquire about. Have fun! "

I clicked "China" in that Section of the General Discussion Area.

I kept this out of the family immigration forum for precisely that reason.

Wherein have I flawed?

You need a good lawyer to advice you not anyone on a board like this.

I'm not saying you flawed or that the subject is inappropriate. I'm saying the only thing related to China is that the person came from there. The forum to get the information you seek is, IMO...

Working & Traveling prior to getting a Green Card

I'm trying to help you find answers, not kick you out of a forum or criticize you. You question is about an illegal getting legal. The experts on that don't hang out here. They may not be on VJ at all. This is likely an issue for legal aid somewhere.

Well, that makes much more sense.

Nonetheless, VJ members have always been very informative. Perhaps this situation is unhelpable--but it's worth trying just in case someone knows a solution.

Yes, it's worth trying but you'll get a lot better chance of success in a less obscure and more appropriate form. Very few members ever read this forum.
