Well hello dear friends :luv:

Nick and I made it safe and sound to Bergen County!!!

We left later than we wanted to yesterday morning (7a.m. instead of 6) and said "so long" to my parents (crying and watching them standing in their driveway waving) as we drove away in the uhaul.

We made it to the Lewiston Bridge at around 9. We didn't even intend on going to the POE but we just followed the GPS...we meant to go the Peace Bridge but whatever

It was VERY busy...duh, it was Saturday. Even the officer said "So, why did you guys decide to do this on a Saturday?!?!" Beats the heck out of me...I never even thought of how busy it would be, but all in all, it went smooth.

He asked us what was in the uhaul, Nick looked at me and then looked back at him and said ..."All her....stuff". LOL Yes, I took a lot of ####### with me!! ;)

He asked us to pull over to the side, park and go inside. There were many people inside and it seemed disorganized. I forgot that they called my name so at first we were both confused as to what to do, so many people were filling out different things, busy families and it was quite packed. Then I remembered and was like "We just wait till my name is called".

About 20 minutes later a very nice lady called me to the counter (She didn't even care about Nick, said nothing to him really). She asked me when we were getting married. I told her right now the plan is August 2nd, but that may change. I also told her I knew about the 90 day window to marry. She said "Good".

She then told us to take a seat and she would call us back.

We sat and waited. Nick and I are total people watchers so we watched and kissed a bit ;) and Nick entertained me by making me laugh...He always does.

Another 20 minutes went by and I was called back. She gave me my passport and told me we had to get married by October 19th. I asked her about the EAD stamp and she really had no idea as to what I was talking about. She went and talked with another officer and came back and told me I should apply at my local EAD office... ... LOL whatever that is!!! LOL ;)

All in all it took about 50 minutes and they never even looked in my uhaul.

The whole trip took about 8 hours, we stopped twice, once in Upstate NY for a bathroom break, Nick had some Timmy's and Timbits. We also stopped in Pennsylvania for gas and Nick bought me a rose :luv: I packed us a nice lunch so we ate in the truck, listened to music, sang and I slept a bit.

We only had to fill up twice and it cost us quite a bit under what we guesstimated. 200.00 bucks in gas so the total trip cost us just under 1000.00. The truck ran great, no problems at all.

We arrived in Bergen County around 5pm. Nick brought me inside our apartment and presented me with a present he bought me....

A 24 inch MAC!!!!!! OMG!!!!! WOO I'm typing on it now..it's killer and I'm in love :luv:

We woke up early, unpacked and got everything inside around noon. We dropped the truck off and spent the afternoon with some friends. Now we are just chilling, unpacking slowly and getting things organized. I have some work to do to make this place "our place", but we'll get there.

I'm going to apply for EI tomorrow morning or maybe tonight.

I love the apartment and am just having such a great time with Nick. It doesn't seem real yet, I keep thinking I'll be going home after my visit...I don't think it'####### me yet that I am home.

:)

I hope everyone is doing well and had a great weekend!!! :D

LOVE YOU ALL!

Awww, I love reading home-coming reviews! Yours is certainly nice - looks like you found yourself a keeper too - a rose along the way - that is so sweet.

Welcome 'home' - it takes a while but soon it will feel like home too:-).

glad all went well

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Your post made me smile big, Laura,

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
