My husband came to the US under an A2 diplomatic Visa. The purpose for his A2 Visa was to learn English and attend University. He also worked a few part-time jobs to suppliment his income; he filed income taxes for all years worked. It never occured to us that there was an issue with this. We are getting to the final stages of the Ir 1 visa and (AOS has been received and and processed, DS230 will be sent this week) and I'm worried this may be an issue, possibly a reason for denial. He has been back in Venezuela the last 2 1/2 years as we go through this process. Is anyone is the same situation---worked in theUS without proper documents----and have you had any problems getting the IR1 visa?

From what I know, A2 visas for diplomatic family dependents are work authorized; so he should be fine. I would think someone at the Embassy would have told him back then if he was not allowed to work, diplomatic missions are quite b1tchy about that stuff. Yet, I am no expert --- has he checked with a professional on this?

Thank you for your response. It made me feel better. My husband doesn't think there will be a problem either because he was told at the Social Security office that he could work. However, his social security card still states "valid for work only with INS authorization" and he is not aware if any INS number that he received. I think I'm just worried as we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and I don't want anything to go wrong :) Thank you again.
