interview cancelled

Hello Vjers,

Our interview was scheduled for this coming Tuesday(22nd). On the 18th, we received a cancellation letter. It's dated the 17th, and that definitely got my attention.

What do we do now? should we go to the interview anyway? or should we wait and see what happens next?

I read from this site that someone got denied and had to pay $300+ for not showing up at the interview. The sad thing is that they received a cancellation letter just like I do. I'm really confused.

I have to tell you that the reason they mention is just because of "Unforeseen Circumstances"

Please, let me know what you think. Should I go, or not?

I agree. Go anyway. I have read a post from someone that got a cancellation notice, showed up for the interview anyway, and had the interview on that day (the USCIS didn't have any info about the cancellation)

I agree that you should go anyway. Hopefully your local office is not too far away.

This same thing happened to us... Our interview was origionaly scheduled for Feb 27 and we recieved the same cancelation notice maybe 2 weeks before (same due to unforseen circumstances... stuff).

We went anyway and were told that unfortunately there was "a hit in the FBI name check". The officer told us to just wait it out and that because of the new laws that we should hear something within 6 months (by August).

Just 5 days ago we got an email from CRIS stating that card production was ordered. Still nothing in the mail yet but that should be any day now.

Obviously another 6 month wait is not what you wanted to hear but on the bright side, getting stuck in the name check used to take ages, and hopefully it only means 6 months now.

Like you say, I'm going anyway. The only thing is, it's a 2hrs+ drive.But we'd rather spend the gas money than getting denied due to "No show". Sigh

Anyone else wants to share their experience? Please, give me your thoughts.

Who are you trying to call? If its the 800 number - that probably won't help.

Unless you can speak to the local office, I'd not listen to any 1-800 person's advise about whether to go to the interview or not. Please let us know either way what happens either by telephone or your in-office visit.

No call or anyone is going to re-assure you enough into not going, I say GO! The consequences of not going can be huge, time consuming, and costly. Why put yourself through the pain. Search around here on VJ and you'll find where people got the notice that the interview was cancelled, so they didn't go... and they received "denied AOS" notices for failure to appear.

Follow the consensus here and go. Most likely you'll have your interview, so be prepared with everything (all proof) as you would normally. And worst case if you dont have an interview, you covered your bases & showed up, and can sleep peacefully knowing that a "denied" notice won't be appearing.

I definitely agree with everybody else here.

If I were you, I would go regardless and if you will not have the interview, at least you'll have the piece of mind of not receiving a denial of your application for not showing up.

Name checks aka security checks are done at all stages of the process. You can be held up in "name checks", and your issuance of a visa, or green card can be held up until your name is cleared. There are several agencies that are checked. Often namechecks are referred to as Administrative Processing.
