I seem to have misworded my previous post. I wasn't suggesting that the good ole boys shot first in this instance. I was just saying, from my experience, living in this area I would put my bet on the good ole boys shooting first in most cases. Unfortunately, the stereotypes of Mexicans is terrible around here and I wouldn't put it past a good ole boy to shoot at one for no good reason at all. I have experienced the "racism" first hand being married to a Mexican. I have experience with Mexicans and I have experience with those good ole boys and I'd take Mexicans anyday. That's just how I feel about it. I wasn't trying to deny the reporter was correct in their reporting. I was just expressing my opinion on how I see things here in good ole NC.

I wouldn't doubt that the rednecks shot first. some people here in the south have absolutely horrific attitudes. BUT most people are nice and welcoming

you haven't been to Morganton have you? As someone else mentioned, some folks round here don't even like people from "up north" coming to live here. And "north" to some folks is West Virginia!

my main theory is... i dont think the amigos shot first.. they are not smart, but they aren't dumb, they already get pulled for nothing while driving (and that'z a fact gathered by stories told my my customers).. now if the had a gun in their car, that'd be the worst thing ever lol.. besides.. buying a gun in the underground (without papers) is very very expensive.. so.. I dont think they did it

mhh I wouldn't think it's that bad in NC.. I mean.. most of the areas are very mixed already.. must be because I live near Fayetteville, people have 'accepted' the different races.. cuz besides mexicans, there are filipinos, chinese, indian, etc.. so I guess they are kinda ok with it now lol... but I do know in the little bitty towns or the 'trailas' where mexicans live.. that they get mugged by the same cops, knowing that the amigos will never ever file a report,, and thats sad

True, "Redneck" is a state of mind, but is not limited to "Whites". I am of Hispanic descent and know many "Hispanic Rednecks" as well.

Pedro you are probably correct in your thinking about Fayetteville. I live in Pineola, a little out in the sticks town, where rednecks reign. It's really bad for people of any other race here. There are so many ignorant people around. People told me when I started dating Javier if we didn't stay together, no one else around here would want to date me, since I had been with a Mexican. I'm not totally sure about Asheville because I live about 1 1/2 hours from there but I would say it's not much different then here. It's really sad we are still dealing with these types of issues.
