And I would put my bet on the good ole boys shooting the first shot as opposed to the hispanics.

And you base that on what, exactly?

Redneck stereotypes vs Hispanic stereotypes. Pick your poison, it's clear clmjmm7 has picked hers.

Or, of course, you could just believe the story as reported until told otherwise.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

I'm not surprised it would happen in a Waffle House, nor am I surprised it would happen in North Carolina. No matter where you go in this area, Mexicans are not well liked. Legal or illegal it doesn't matter. Most folks I've run across just don't want foreigners around here, least of all "dirty Mexicans" (not my term, but several of my neighbour's)

I'm not really foreign tho, or so I've been told, cuz I'm Canadian

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

As the Hispanic group drove off, someone in the vehicle fired at least once into a large window near the front door, he said.

Not a surprise. Stuff like this supports stereotypes.

How is that? It sounds to me like the reporter was conveying facts.

No. The fact that hispanics are shooting from cars. It shows that it may be more than just a stereotype.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Charity, if only they could HEAR you say "good ole boys...."

Naw, Charity's sadly had first hand experience with this sort of thing. That dirty Mexicans thing...it's not just something people are saying...it's a belief system to some people.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

the 'dirty mexican' thing is true indeed in NC.. for the carolinians.. a Mexican is a short dirty guy that doesnt speak english and works in the fields only.... the funny thing, is their stereotype is so particular, that any hispanic with a different feature is considered 'puertorrican' or just 'hispanic'.. its funny how people don't think I'm mexican.. they just call me the hispanic guy or the puertorrican guy.. cuz, mexican unfortunately has a negative connotation..

although.. I can say. I've felt racism in the midwest.. St Louis.. and actually people here in the South is very friendly.. Atlanta, Charleston, Raleigh, Chapel hill.. I havent had any problems at all.. and Charleston is very very very white lol.. so it depends which 'version' is more convenient for anyone..

I think it's the cities in the South that are okay. Better than the average city in the MidWest even. Out in the sticks, I'm afraid, it may be a different story. But that's true anywhere in the US - not just in the South.
