Gretna Green was famous at one time for English couples in love running up there to get married when their families were against it. I just always thought it was kind of Romantic. I am a sucker for that kind of stuff.

Another coincidence. Now I have to google North Berwick. brb.

Yeah, my great grandfather moved out back in 1870 (we don't reproduce that often lol) as a teen due to political familial disagreements and went to Canada. Then he decided to blow CN and move to Denver. Took his money and just painted china and eventually opened up a store.

 Ya know I was told that JR Tolken got their inspiration for the Lord of the Rings Series from the landscapes of Scotland. It is enchanting there.

One of my great grandfathers on my Mom's side is from Denmark, the other is from Germany and he married a woman from Switzerland who was my Great Grandma. I don't want to go into who the Danish one married coz that's a whole other ummm family dark secret story.

So very true and my husband's and my family were against the marriage in the beginning. I just don't think he could have got the visa to go there to get married :(

In the 1800's they were both first generation immigrants to the US.

Mine too so we eloped. Be after a year and a half of marriage the families are accepting it now and Waleed and I are discussing having a white wedding here. We even set a date but it's three years out. :P

Yeah, and he didn't even hide it when he borrowed place names lol.

My family was all very pureblood on both sides until on my mom's side, in 1873 a *jew* (gasp and terror) married into their 100% Germanic line (my great-grandmother), and then on my dad's side my great-grandfather married some a *English woman* (more gasp and terror from an *inapproptiate social standing* (more gasp and terror). So that's it, then my mom's side stuck to more good Germans until my dad, and then my dad's side married a German 1st generation American (my grandmother) and now me. Since we're not really Scottish-Scottish, but Norman, I'm basically Germanic 100% around. Now I've married a mostly outsider to the gene pool. I say mostly as the initial subject of gasp and terror in my mom's side is also part of my husband's background (Jewish). He's mostly Arab though. So we're mostly different lol. And I passed the thallesemia score with higher points than him! :P Ha!

Wow. Well I'm pretty much related to everyone in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, and probably a few other surrounding states. That one great grandpa well he was a mormon poligamist with six wives. I've seen pix of him and his six wives on their land with a mocking bird in chicken wire and wood box cage.

I even have native american in me on my grandma and grandpa's side from my Mom. I don't know details though but Grandma does and she has all these Indian blankets and medicine beads/decrotaive leather necklaces from that side. It's complicated Heniz 57.

My Dad's side is just as complicated.

I've been asked by random strangers more than once if I am German so I guess that stands out the most genetically. Others say the Scandinavian stands out the most. I have to admit while I was in Denmark and Norway I saw many ppl that looked familiar to me like family.

I get mistaken for German or UK every time I go anywhere, which makes sense. I remember in Jordan the #1 guess was always German and not American. In Germany the guess was more UK than German, but sometimes German... until I spoke. Speaking gives it away :)

6 wives would be insane. That's like one for every day of the week.

 And he had many kids with them. I can't even keep track of what went down back then but it's not a proud moment in family history. I read some of the geneology and stories collected on it. The funny thing is I'm related to so many people and I we don't even know each other. Everyone had like 6-8 kids till my Mom and she had just 4 with Dad. Dad went on to have 10 and he's still going. gag.

We were always a fairly small bunch.. largest number of kids was like 8? On my mom's side. My dad's side is always 1-3. I'm an only child, my dad is an only child, etc :)

Ammar wants 4. He plays with whether that is minimum or maximum depending on his mood, but usually it si minimum, and finances are what will limit it.. and probably age lol. He was born, though, when his mother was 46... he's all about having them until you can't!
