Secondly i have not seen Jarhead i`m afraid so i am not sure what you are trying to say. I can provide evidence to support my views on "a lot" (and i never stated all or most despite what some of you seem intent on saying) of soldiers.

First question. How do you know how brave i am? How do you know anything about me? I have rarely posted on this forum other than with visa related posts. Even if you had read all my posts on the internet you would not know me. Every human being deserves respect i believe. That includes you. You attack me for stating my views. My views at no point spoke of bravery troops may or may not display/have. My views were made clear enough for people to understand but people just seem intent on attacking me because i offer up a different view of the world. I have not hidden behind any websites or even posted that many links. My links were responses to requests. I googled those links and much information on those links is associated press information. If you can not respond to the actual points then why bother replying the the thread? Just to attack me personally?

Bravery is an issue we can debate in a bravery thread if you like. Brave men do not have to be murderers or torturers or even followers. The fact that they are risking their lives is down to their personal choice and whilst i respect that they are riskign their lives and whilst i respect that they are not all bad people per se i do not give them respect over say for example a civillian who doesn`t join the army because they don`t want to.

Again your post is filled with personal insults and attacks which is really childish when i am trying to debate as a grown up. I will not lower myself to name calling.

I am not hiding behind a keyboard. If i were in a room with you i would tell you my views whilst you called me names and tried to belittle me. Eventually i would walk away i am guessing. Walking away is something anybody can do if what i say offends them. They can also say to me "hey that hurts because...". My views are my views and i will again point out that at no point did i brand all soldiers stupid or violent. I said a lot, this is as much the fault of the army as it is of the men i speak of. Just look through news stories of soldiers who went nuts and killed their families or got angry in a pub and had a fight or tortured prisoners or treated shooting a civillian like a computer game or got mad when he was not allowed to shoot at a kid throwing rocks etc etc etc. The military has bad PR because it is a violent institution.

Having said that i am sure some soldiers are smart men who honestly believe their role is a good one for society. I just disagree.

I did not and would not have spat on your father but i imagine a fact like that is of no importance to you. I didn`t make the army the talking point in the same way you didn`t make my "lack of bravery" the issue. You mentioned you felt i was not brave and i mentioned i thought a lot of soldiers are not very smart. I could spend the rest of my days getting the last word in on the issue telling you how brave i have been but that is not an issue here. If the people of VJ wish to know more about me i am sure they will speak to me and not read your words of hatred.

When did i say that they were not college educated? I said they were not that smart i believe or a word to that point. That has nothing to do with college in my view. As for joining the army to pay for college what is wrong with bar work or mcdonald`s or walmart or a job that doesn`t involve killing and the like? I do not buy the pay for college excuse very much but for those who do fair play to them however again i never made any sweeping statements about all or even most soldiers.

now for roll call from my family...my great uncle, retired army - ww2 - 20 years (now deceased - god rest his soul). dad, retired navy - korean war and vietnam war - 26 years and now a disabled veteran. me, retired army - 1st gulf war - 20 years. nephew, active duty marines - 2nd gulf war - 6 years. grand total - 72+ years in service.

i regret that the zealots saw fit to spit on your father as he returned to his country after doing his duty when called by his country. it consistently amazes me how some usc's treat their own military like criminals from nuremberg.

dad never had anyone spit on him, he'd probably have made a few rich dentists. i'd love to sell tickets to anyone spitting on my nephew....

I am used to the name thing. I have not been back peddling. If you read what i said i was simply misunderstood by the first guy. Lisa D has a previous beef with me because i didn`t agree with her on a previous issue. I just don`t see the need for name calling however much people disagree with me on this. I am a nice guy and yes i have had friends in the army and no i don`t spit on them. Sometimes people disagree and that is healthy i think. Throwing abuse at each other isn`t healthy though.

Well i accept your apology although it really was not needed. I would apologise to anybody who took my comments the wrong way but like i have said before a lot does not by my definition mean all or a majority. I am personally not a fan of the army and would not join the army for the simple fact that they don`t get a say what they fight for. Wars of aggression etc. That is a personal view i hold and maybe it makes me biased towards those serving in the army. Maybe so but there is evidence to support my "bias" if it is indeed a bias. I mean i try not to be biased so i am not sure i am biased. I was very careful to not make a blanket statement like that which is why i said a lot and not most or all. I would never have said ALL anyway because that kind of generalisation is what causes racism and the like. I am very much a humanist and if that is a name calling offense then i plead guilty and say do your worst.

I saw men who were triple and quadruple amputees, men with eyes missing, burns, etc...you name it, I saw it. And I will be damned if I will sit back and listen to someone trying to turn their sacrifices into anything other than heroism in its purest form.

i fully agree. most veterans don't know the cost of their service until years later, as my father is discovering regarding agent orange and his 1 year tour in vietnam.
