passport will expire before interview

Hi everyone,

I need information from anybody who had expired passport at the time of green card interview.

Were there any problems? I know that they may or may not stamp the passport, my concern is - is it mandatory to have valid passport during interview? I will have state ID card.

My husband's passport is expired and our interview is Tuesday, we called the consulate in the US where passports are renewed and it would be september 2009 until we could get an appointment, don't worry about it, It's not a US passport anyway, so I don't think it has any meaning to them.

My waiting time at consulate is not that long, but I'd rather have expired than no passport at the time of the inteview. Thank you Jillian, and good luck

I'm not sure whether expired passport at the time of the interview would cause problems, but there is another solution for your situation.

Why don't you apply for a new passport at the consulate, but ask them to give you your old passport back while you're waiting. They should

only need the old passport at two points in time: at the beginning, to confirm your identity, and once they issue the new passport, to cancel the old one. There is no reason for them to keep it while you're waiting.

I would just take the expired passport to the interview.

After approval, you can mail it off for a new one.

Better have other ID with you as an expired passport is not valid for an ID. I was told this when we went for our AOS interview .

Yes, I plan to get state ID card next week. I went to the office and I was told I could get it with passport, birth certificate and NOA letter from USCIS.

Since you don;t have a choice, carry the expired passport to the interview.
