A district court. And no, we aren't rescheduling, he wants to be able to vote. It's just a bad day timing wise because of my out of town friend. But she'll have to work around us. It's at 8am at least, so that might work. And if it's over within 2-3 hours it should be fine.

It's on a Friday. So my husband is taking it off and will get a long weekend!

Is your district court in town? I checked the internet, and the nearest US district court is in Madison, had to take my daughter there last month for a placement test at 8:00 AM but had to leave here at 4:00AM to get there in time, crazy town with road construction and many one way streets, all the wrong way, and right smack in the middle of their rush hour. Very poorly planned city, all the university and state building are intermingled with one really big fat, NO PARKING SIGN, unless you are the governor. Not looking forward to that, again.

But I gather it has to be in a US District Court, not just any old county court house? We also have been shifted between Milwaukee and St. Paul field offices, Milwaukee is not my choice, has to be downtown Milwaukee with more NO PARKING signs. That is why my wife begged to say her oath in St. Paul after she was approved, but at their convenience, not ours.

Only good thing about this, is once it is over with, we are done, well almost done, her employer, SS, DMV, voter registration, and the Department of State. Did I leave anything out? Do I get my I-864 back?

The district court is in downtown Cleveland, also where our field office is, and a 15-20 min drive from our suburb. I'm sorry it is so difficult/tricky to get to your places.

Ok, I knew about SS, he just goes there and says he's a citizen now? And they update their computer? I did not know about the DMV though, what does he need to do there, or the Dept. of State?

Thanks

DMV has her listed as a permanent resident with a green card that is going to expire, Dept of State for a US passport. Shouldn't the USCIS already know she will be a US citizen so no longer has to file an address change? They didn't seem know they issued her a ten year green card where we already had to prove to them twice before that we were married. We had to prove all that same stuff again.

For DMV record, you can deal with it when it comes for driver license renewal. When it comes, you can show your US passport to update their record. Or you can visit them and update it now. But I don't think that will be big of deal. Most people will use E-verify from SSA/DHS to verify your immigration status.

For Social Security Admin office, you have to bring your Certificate of Naturalization as a proof, and fill out the SS-5 form again.

For US passport, you have to mail Certificate of Naturalization to American Passport Center or something like that.

Then they will return original to you via mail.

Plus if you started to work with current employer less than 3 years, you may need to fill out new I-9 employment verification card or something like that.

Will be checking our mail box, the one that sits on a pole next to the road. Did check our online status, hasn't changed since day one. Really dying of curiosity where they are going to send us, and please, let it be in the afternoon at least to avoid that early morning rush hour traffic. Also hope it comes in before the snows, either God or Mother Nature was with us for those not mutually agreed upon appointments in the middle of winter. That has happened before and if you can only average 20 mph in a severe snow storm, takes over ten hours to get home, that makes for a very long day.

We'll have to remember the DMV when it is time to renew.

Tom is not looking forward to going to the Soc. Sec. office yet again. Last time it was a two hour wait.

He got his day off work, and I am planning a small party for him that night! Sister in Law promised a flag cake. I sent off the form to have the flag flown over the state capitol building on his oath day, but it may not be enough notice. So we'll see what they say.

Well, the DMV is optional, wife already got her 8 year renewal after a battle, course, I have been trained by this country to fight for freedom, so like a battle now and then. Would just like to bring a copy of her certificate and tell them where to stick it, if that is okay.

SS is a snap for me, near one of my clients office and swear they have more people working there than the population of our county.

My paranoia with the Dept of State is an issue in losing that certificate. Since I am handy with tools and have a shop, thinking about making a steel frame with the certificate encased behind bullet proof glass, with a chain welded to it with a 50 pound ball attached since they insist on the original. Postage may be a little extra, but do you think they can possibility lose something like that?

For Social Security Admin, you can mail SS-5 form with documentation required.

Don't forget to use Priority Flat Envelope service with delivery confirmation.

Considering extra cost for First Class mail with Certified, return receipt service, it may be good to use Priority mail with flat envelope service with delivery confirmation. So you can have track of where your paperwork goes.

I wish USCIS provides two version of Naturalization Certificate.

One with normail one, so you can frame it and display somewhere.

Another one for wallet card version, so you can use it for ID purpose.

So when you mail big one, still you can carry wallet card version - if possible, laminated it -.

I know some University provides diploma with two versions - official one, and wallet card one -.

$400 bucks and a one year wait for a replacement is a complete ripoff, but can assure you, the Dept of State is the last one to contact on our list. Everyone else is local, can make copies here and bring the original, that way, IT won't get lost. Also checked into making certified copies, but that appears to be ancient history. The only real concern here, is how much cost and effort is required to replace that lost original document, if the USCIS even charged 25 bucks with a one or two week turnaround, wouldn't even be an issue.

Um yeah, exactly. I don't think we will be mailing it in to Social Security, why risk it when we can go sit in the office for two hours, weeee!

Mailing it for the passport is scary enough.

Tammi,

My wife is currently on her 2nd green card. (10 yr one) Some of her G/F's have told her that the USCIS sends you a letter telling that they are elegible for citizenship. I am under the impression that we just file the N-400 to get the ball rolling.

Can anyone help?

Thanks
