Got the ceremony date today in the mail. It's about six weeks from the interview date. That was really fast, I wasn't expecting that and it's like one of the worst days possible. We'll make do though. I have an out of town guest that day, but maybe she can come and it will work out (I was supposed to drop her off somewhere though). It's for 8 am, how long do they usually last?

You are not going to reschedule it, right? USCIS always comes first, not rain, tornado's, landslides, snow, or anything will stop you. That guy that posted from Miami said they did 14,000 in less than two hours, should be less than that. I would hope. Is yours on a weekend? Is your husband going to memorize the oath just in case the reader can't speak English? Ha, from the way my wife described her trying to repeat the swear in oath, had to be like one of those Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau skits. Wish I had my video camera in there.

That first sentence in the citizenship oath is a tongue twister, I believe they call that a run-on sentence. Ha, good luck in getting a good speaker.

Congratulation!

I think Oath ceremony itself doesn't take that long. Probably 10~20 min?

But waiting time and preparation can be taken for whatever situation your DO has.

So be prepared for long waiting time. At least, 1 hour, but if your place for oath ceremony is crowded, it may take more than that.

they do an introduction, speeches, all that blah blah stuff...it can take a while. plus, it depends on how many people participate in it, because they'll call each person's name and country.

that's how the one i was invited to was, anyway. lasted a couple of hours.

Hey Tammi, where is your husband's ceremony (a formal act or set of acts performed as prescribed by ritual or custom) going to be held? A district court, field office, theater, stadium, MacDonalds.......?

LOL, here is another definition of ceremony, (uninteresting and tiresome; dull) until you get to your part, like 3 seconds to have someone hand you a diploma or pour water on your head, or 20 seconds to recite the oath. Could liven it up a bit, with music, food, and drinks.

A district court. And no, we aren't rescheduling, he wants to be able to vote. It's just a bad day timing wise because of my out of town friend. But she'll have to work around us. It's at 8am at least, so that might work. And if it's over within 2-3 hours it should be fine.

It's on a Friday. So my husband is taking it off and will get a long weekend!

Is your district court in town? I checked the internet, and the nearest US district court is in Madison, had to take my daughter there last month for a placement test at 8:00 AM but had to leave here at 4:00AM to get there in time, crazy town with road construction and many one way streets, all the wrong way, and right smack in the middle of their rush hour. Very poorly planned city, all the university and state building are intermingled with one really big fat, NO PARKING SIGN, unless you are the governor. Not looking forward to that, again.

But I gather it has to be in a US District Court, not just any old county court house? We also have been shifted between Milwaukee and St. Paul field offices, Milwaukee is not my choice, has to be downtown Milwaukee with more NO PARKING signs. That is why my wife begged to say her oath in St. Paul after she was approved, but at their convenience, not ours.

Only good thing about this, is once it is over with, we are done, well almost done, her employer, SS, DMV, voter registration, and the Department of State. Did I leave anything out? Do I get my I-864 back?

Tammi:

Mine was at 8 am as well or maybe 8:30. I can't remember. Anyway, there were 73 people getting their citizenship that day and it took approximately 2 or 2 1/2 hours to go through all of us.
