Hello fellow VJers

Well I've been reading the posts for a while now gathering information to be able to make a decision about the application process and which way to go about things. This forum is such a great resource helped me so much to find a path through this process!

So my question to you is this: Is it feasible and worth it to move to Vancouver due to the seemingly shorter wait time for the K1 visa application through the Western Consulate i.e. Vancouver. I am considering this as I would easily be able to find work and would be closer to my sweetie!! Any of you done this or considered it and has it worked out!

Thanks!

If it works out for you logistically, then yes, you could do that. Others here have done so, some because they legitimately moved there, others because they used the address of a family member who lived there as their contact information. Some even had their files transferred to Vancouver to a relative's address. Yes, their files were processed faster by doing so. So, if you have the option of doing so and it works for you, go for it.

Keep in mind its not a given when it comes to transferring to Vancouver. For awhile it was quite popular and one didn't seem to require a valid reason. Vancouver said "come on down" Then it changed so one required a reason. A valid reason is moving to live with family or for work. So keep that in mind when you email and ask them if they would accept it. Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

You haven't filled out your timeline, but it appears you haven't even filed your application yet? Yes, it will probably be quicker if you're applying for a K-1 and you're in the western part of Canada. If you have family, or a job there, by all means move there and when filing put your western Canadian address on the application and it will be sent to the Vancouver consulate. West = Manitoba westward so that might help. I remember one person that actually used a BC address yet lived in Ontario, and had their interview in BC. This situation was risky I'd say, because they were not living there. While it's really nice to have a more speedier process by living in the west, it does probably border on the morally wrong if you're not actually living there. If you could however move west during the process, then by all means do so.

Just a reminder, that while it does seem like an eternity, if your case is pretty straightforward, then a K-1 shouldn't really take that long.

I think K1s may be getting processed faster now?

I know my AOS got done fairly quickly....

But like everyone else has said...if you have family or a good reason to move out West then go for it...otherwise just to move for the possibility of faster processing can be risky....

Hello,

Yes I have not filled out a timeline yet as we're undecided as to which route to take. The original plan was for me to go down on TN Visa, figure things out (ie. have some time together before we make the commitment decision) and then move back up here to await the K1 process after a year or so of being down on a TN. Im a licensed professional and the licensing and educational credentials have taken a LOT longer to be processed then we planned for and so now we're just trying to figure out the best way for us to be together quickly! ...would still love to have some time together in the same city before we settle on the K1 tho.... :innocent:
