Since you call others poorly educated, I have to assume that means something and isn't just a horribly uneducated bastardization of the phrase "red herring argument".

More like a combination of the influence of beer and poor proofreading skills from taking on three or more posters who can't address the topic head-on. What's your excuse?

When I was in 8th grade my history teacher told the class that anyone who believes in creationism is an idiot. I then proceeded to get him fired for speaking about creationism. I'm a mean person.

There's nothing inherently wrong with believing in Biblical Creation, as a concept. The problem is when it taken beyond a general concept reliant on personal belief and faith and wrapped it up in the trappings of science in such a way as to suggest that there is a scientific basis for their belief.

I was just giving the alien some examples.

I really didn't care I just felt like making a point to the teacher because he was a d*ck :P

Yeah - sorry I hijacked your point there. I get what you're saying

Biblical Creationists are one example of the kind of people who cry "liberal bias" when they feel their ideas aren't taken seriously.

I've been to a few "get togethers" at my wifes school and most of the teachers she works with are really nice people. Some of them I can't stand though.

1. I go to church regularly

2. I oppose abortion and capital punishment

3. I support homosexual rights

4. I oppose prayer in public schools

5. I trust most people unless proven otherwise but not to my detriment

6. Um, yeah that's pretty much it.

oh and AJ: I have only one MA but I'm working on #2 :)

I bet you don't go up to perfect strangers at the school holidays dinner and work that into the conversation though. I met a few who do and I talked about it with the other 'spouses' (non teachers) and they all knew exactly how many masters so-and-so had. It's hilarious.

Liberals don't have the corner market on snobbery and elitism as you well know. ;)

A conservative is a liberal who has been mugged

liberals brag about their advanced degrees and conservatives brag about their bank accounts

Oh please, A.J doesn't need an excuse for anything, he didn't make a crass mistake and you are hardly 'taking on' posters. However, enjoy your beer and your imagination.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Education is a universal concept in most countries isn't it?

Unless you're really suggesting that the US education system is so radically different from any other western country that no comparison can be made....

Blatant evasion on your part BTW - for the obvious purposes of shutting down discussion. Just to point that out.

So you have no first-hand experience with American classrooms but fancy yourself somewhat of an expert on the subject. What do you do for a living?

If all educational systems are the same, why aren't students' scores nearly identical? Do they all teach the same history and government classes?

Do try to explain where I'm evading and what I'm evading? C'mon 6, for guy who was taught the Queen's English you should include the object in a sentence.

I'd never heard this expression and just had to look it up. Are you refering to the Rube Goldberg machine?

 I had to look it up too. Apparently it's a synonym for "hick".

Can't believe I never learned it...damn American education...

Oh for God's sake - what's with the fricking nitpicking? Is it your contention that public education as a relative concept isn't relatively similar across the western world?

What's your point with this line of argument? That people who didn't go through the US education system somehow aren't qualified to discuss the topic of education in general terms?

I totally get what you're doing (in case it wasn't sufficiently clear in the preceding post) - you're trying to shut non-USC's out of a general discussion by claiming that esoteric knowledge of the US education system is necessary to reply.

And a note for your reading comprehension - I never claimed to be an expert on the US education system. If that needs to be pointed out of course...

Why not? After all, us liberals believe in polygamy. I am sure his wife will understand. As for the poodles, well, they're ecstatic!

You could try looking at the original point of the thread (before the grammar police got fired up) which was on political leanings on teachers and surely it's not nitpicking to note history and government classes might have a political dynamic. By contrast, I wouldn't have the hubris to believe I know about the education system of Iceland.

What's your point with this line of argument? That people who didn't go through the US education system somehow aren't qualified to discuss the topic of education in general terms?

Right, they aren't qualified to assess any political biases in American classrooms when they never set foot in one.

When the topic is British education I'll be sure and defer to you.

And a note for your reading comprehension - I never claimed to be an expert on the US education system. If that needs to be pointed out of course...

I said "something of an expert" (I was giving you a break). At least you consider yourself (or any non-American) more qualified to deal with the subject.
