an IO on the phone opened a service request for an interview..does this help at all to get the interview sooner? yes no maybe?

Service requests only help you if you are outside the processing times for your type of application. Considering that your N-400 was submitted in November of 2007 and NYC DO is processing July 26, 2007, you still have at least a good four more months of this to go.

Patience is required in this instance.

I called the Department of State today to ask why since I will be applying for a passport for my wife and going to a certified Dept. of State passport clerk of court, why couldn't she make a copy of my wife's original Certificate of Citizenship, send that in and let me take my original home. She said the State doesn't like that because sometimes the copies are not clear. What if I do a real hi res scan with a full color print out your officer can check? No, it's against the rules you application will be rejected. What happens if you lose our certificate? It won't be lost, State knows how expensive they are to replace, but it won't get lost if you send it certified mail with a tracking number. I said, I am a US citizen from birth and sent my birth certificate in certified mail, and it was lost, but only cost me ten bucks, this certificate cost 380 bucks and takes the USCIS over a year to replace. She said if that happens, just call back and we will see what we can do. I did ask about going to Chicago to one of their main offices, she said only can do that with an appointment and plane tickets in my hand for traveling within the next two weeks. Said okay, thank you, but a wasted call. USCIS is no different, but at least they let you bring the originals in to look at so you can bring them back with you.

What country are you from?

Sorry flavaofsummer, it is pretty annoying I know, we're all pretty frustrated. I think it would be a lot less irritating if the USCIS would post realistic processing times, then we would have a better idea of what to expect but that won't happen because in their mass confusion there are random approvals from July 2007 to February 2008 (that's from other sites I've looked at - people from February were receiving interviews).

I guess we just have to wait patiently. It could be worse, we could be waiting for an approval indefinitely separated from our spouses right?

While we're with our loved ones we can't complain too much - as disorganized and confusing as the USCIS are, we are at their mercy!

Did state, least we are not waiting in a long line, but maybe it would be better to wait in a long line, at least you know how many ahead of you, and how many behind you. Military was that way, never knew where you were going next or even if you were going, wouldn't tell you anything.

Do you believe in God, heaven and hell, if God will make those people that make you wait, wait without knowledge of what is going to happen next, if anything, watching those people wait wouldn't make you feel any better. Because the only thing that would really make you happy is to be with your loved one. I had to wait for the woman of me dreams for over a year, that was a long year, but it finally passed, as did those years I spent in the military. Even yesterday, waiting for my wife to be called in 40 minutes seemed like a very long time, the 31 minutes she was in there seemed like an eternity, not knowing what was going on. But maybe those people that are making wait think they are protecting our country, or maybe it's just one application after another.

What about your husband, is he waiting too? Anything he can do? And your kids, are they asking when daddy is coming? On other sections of this board, new people are coming everyday, just starting to wait and wondering why their case status isn't on line, or why aren't they getting any mail. We all been through that, wife and I are near the end of our wait, but that is only because we started all this years ago, we did our share of waiting. It is making us appreciate each other probably a lot more if we didn't have to wait. Still wake up in the morning, and still can't believe that she is finally here.

I didn't want to reveal the true homeland of my wife either, to me, she is an angel from heaven, or a Goddess of Venus, so I chose Venezuela that was the closest name I could find. Besides, Venus was not a choice in the country list.

No Flava, she's from Venus, they actually came here when ancient Greece was a philosophical society and introduced the concept of thinking men and women, equality, and democracy. But things went haywire here, so they went back, created an illusion that their planet is covered with sulfuric acid at a 600*C temperature to ward off NASA spacecraft so they can live in peace.

Which planet is your husband from? Or is he from a different galaxy?

how did she pass the venus immigration center point..how did she pass the satellite radars at NASA knowing something was moving towards earths sky.The atmosphere of Venus is very hot and thick. You would not survive a visit to the surface of the planet - you couldn't breathe the air, you would be crushed on by the enormous weight of the atmosphere, and you would burn up in surface temperatures high enough to melt lead..

I am also a mommies boy, when she died, it was not easy for me to find a wife, couldn't find another mommy that was willing to read me bedtime stories, I like Snow White, wake me in the morning, dress me, fix me breakfast, and hold my hand when we had to cross the street so I wouldn't get hit by those big cars. And immigration was real naughty to me making me cry telling me that if I don't do all that stuff they will take my mommy away from me, I mean my wife, but she kissed me on my forehead and said everything will be alright. She was right, everything is turning out alright, but it took a long long time.
