Hmmmm................ i am still to apply .....but i think I shd understand the scenario before i leap. Can people share in which all fields they were trying ........anyone has any experience in 3D artist/Graphics/designer job hunting ??

I'm in Field and Event Marketing (Telecom specialist) and I have to say that I was very lucky with getting this job. I received an email from a US friend saying a friend of his was looking for good people. The friend of his turned out to be a Brit who offered me an interview on the spot. I now support Fed Gov in my role and everyone tells me that federal experience is great to have. The company and people are great and the benefits are better than I had in the UK (which I was very surprised by). Where are you based ?? My company is hiring and most of the design/web design roles would be northern NY. If that fits send me your resume and I will see it gets to the right person.

This thread really is a thoroughly depressing read. I work as a service manager for an FM company here in the UK (security being the service I manage) and have decent salary and all the usual management benefits (car/phone/laptop etc). At 37, I really don't think I could face starting from the bottom, and I'd rather die than work in a fast food joint or wait tables.

Deary, deary me........... :(

Sometimes you have to suck it up. When I moved to Chicago I went from a nice bank job to having to work at a sub shop for a while. It sucked...but sometimes to move forward you have to take a couple steps back first.

I'm dreading looking for a job. I have a degree in Forensic Science which I won't be able use as more than likely all forensic jobs will be for US citizens only. Currently I'm in a well paying goverment job and I can't apply for a government job either. So its either back to retail (which I do not want to do) or an office job.

That sucks, Laura. And you'll have to wait at least 4 years (3 to file, and another 1 to go through the process) beforeyou can apply for anything federal. I'm so gonna do my homework on this before heading out. Even if it means going back to school, that's what I'll do rather than some degrading minimum wage #######.

I just thinking of getting a part time job to start with or possibly doing voluntary work to get experience. Maybe on the base Tom will be stationed at. Then when the time comes I can apply for the federal job I am aiming for.
